the irish team isnt packed with non nationals as the evidence i provided shows...how many of the belgium team play their football in the belgian league?..even the brazilian team is dominated by players from the european leagues...in international football you generally have to have players playing their football from the better leagues in your team...the league of ireland does not qualify for this...anybody who is good enough gets a move away from the league of ireland

God forbid Hill that your children would ever have to leave Ireland to find work and have your grandchildren born in a different country by your logic they can never have any Irish heritage and nobody is a non national everyone comes from a certail country .

as they should mesamis...a lot would be the hardcore element of those that support the national team as well....there is an element though that dont as shown by hill on this thread....i have noticed it elsewhere also...have you yourself?

Not really to be honest. The odd contrary person maybe. I know a lot of LoI supporters who support Ireland but their club comes first which is fair enough imo.

What I've noticed more of is the "passionate" Ireland supporter who couldn't find their local LoI club's ground if their life depended upon it.

but you were born rared and lived all your life in dublin
how could you be classed half cork/kerry thats madness
your parents have their lives and you have yours
where your from and grow up shapes who you are every bit as much as your parents

half the people you mentioned havent played for ireland since the early 00s or late 90s...its pretty basic stuff..if you are good enough to play for ireland then you will get picked barring a trap situation where he fell out with some players...we dont exactly have huge amounts of players to pick from so we need all the help we can get...they only come out when ireland reach a major tournament mesamis...be it rugby soccer womens boxing or mma...we all know the type.....iv noticed quite a few myself and found it quite strange..lot of loi fans hate delaney like most people but he isnt the team

ah come on nearly all of them have played in the last 4 years man
the problem is we had a cracing league here in the 00tys
most of the actual irish born guys in the panel now were playing here in them days
and were every bit as good as they were when they got the call up for national team (only when their addresses changed)
guys like doyle, long, hoolahan, murphy, meyler, ward and so on where all playing every bit as good as they are now
but werent given a chance so had to leave
along with that you had players who stayed and lost out by never getting a real chance
crowe and jason byrne in their prime were defo good enough
both got token runs in challenge games and that was it
you also had bobby ryan at his best with bohs in his pomp was the best winger available to ireland
but never got a run
i hope your watching the game on rte now
that first half was as good a soccer match outside of the champions league that I have seen this year
finely poised at 1v1
two players who you can look out for is towell and horgan both on dundalk

Bobby Ryan was at his best with Galway UTD and was never better than Duff.

The only thing the FAI has to answer for is how Michael Donnelan was never capped after a year at Galway United?

no way man he was at his best with bohs under stephen kenny that time
alright he may not have been better than duff at the time but was defo good enough for ireland
and because he played with bohs and not so middle leagued english team got overlooked

League of Ireland games can look decent because you are watching 2 teams of equal standard. But that's the point. Any match of equal standard teams will look decent. But the actual quality is rubbish. The pass completion rate is shocking. The average competition rate per game of less than 70% is only matched in England by league 2.

Blackpool are getting hockeyed on a weekly basis in the championship. If they were in Ireland they'd hardly lose a match all season.

If Blackpool were In Ireland they wouldn't be able to hang onto their players so they would be the exact same.
That's the problem money.
We had a very good standard in the league in the 00tys
As teams went for it and were able go hold onto players
Who are now in the national squad but once the main clubs went bust the league suffered and players went across the area for far less than they were worth

Also mike you could say that's why they try promote the premier league in england but its not true
They say its the most competitive but realistically its not what they try make out
Every year you have two to three max who are having any chance of winning it
The rest are way below them in quality
And haven't a hope of winning it
But they try pull the wool over people's eyes and say Spanish German and others in Europe only has two teams when its the exact same in england
But with the worse thing being the top two sides in the other European big leagues are far better than the top two in england

A great thread reduced to nothing because the admin allowed it to deviate to a topic that is totally unrelated to the initial thread . Boys if you want to talk about the standard in the League of Ireland then start a thread on the other sports forum. Admin do your job.

if these lads were remotely good enough like you say then obviously they would be signed by an english team..even scottish teams would come in for them if they were good enough...i agree though greengrass...im going to start a thread on the topic in the elevenside forum so im happy to continue the discussion with anybody there

So, discussing the standard of rugby in Ireland is not off topic but discussing the standard of soccer in Ireland is off topic???
