You are correct Marlon , tv4 are a national broadcaster . So championship, league and club games are covered live by national broadcasters , some bias!

I don't subscribe to any British channels. Many others don't either, RTE gives news on Premier league as it is hugely popular here.

because your in america maybe
but anybody here in ireland
which is where rte brodcasts you do remember
will have bbc utv channell4 and so on
be it on on a sky upc or free to air package
so can watch british national news on them stations
rte gives news on premier league over gaa which is even more popular here!!!!

National broadcasters tend to cover the biggest tournaments - GAA championships, 6 nations, Olympics, soccer World Cup..etc . Of course they don't cover local club games.

national brodcasters have a remit to brodcast the biggest sport in that nation too
you seem slightly unsure of what national means
all you want is international stuff on the irish national tv station haha

the deal is we pay 160 euro as a tv licences fee
95% of that goes to fund rte
the other 5% is shared among tv3 tg4 and amazingly rte also get a hare of that 5% aswell
they already get 95% and then take a share of the other 5%

I can't believe they included 15 years who participated in Leinster and Munster Junior cups, which are schools competitions. Next thing you'll be telling me the Fitzgibbon Cup winners from The University of Limerick are actually students. Groundbreaking updates from 'Media' man.

TG4 broke away from RTE 8 years ago and they are not part of the national broadcaster. RnaG are part of the national broadcaster but TG4 are a competitor of RTE. So the national broadcaster does not show GAA club games or live national league games, you may have to review your opinions monkey!

I am back in Ireland several years hill16 , saorview does not have the British channels. If you choose to pay for and watch British tv , that is your own business but don't expect every other proud Irish person to do the same.

Tg4 most certainly are part a national broadcaster, feel free to look up the BAI website

The mis-information here is fairly pathetic

Are you saying TG4 are part of RTE monkey, because they certainly are not. They are a PSB, but as this whole discussion is about RTE any content they broadcast should not be seen as part of RTEs output.

Bad monkey even the people who don't have sky or upc have boxes where the get both irish and British stations for free. You wont get rights when you don't bid for him, even looking at the lack of coverage the give to club games i.e. not giving results, the poor highlights programme the put on which has nothing to do with rights. You talk about international elements well why does it only matter to rugby and not give coverage to other sports competing at an international level. The gaa has an international element but you would not know it given the poor coverage given by Rte. If you include Tg4 as part of the national broadcaster (which it is not) then have to consider all the rugby the show as well. Rte have the rights to ladies/ football coverage yet the give tiny coverage especially in comparison tol the coverage given by 2fm to women's rugby. Even the make up of panels plenty of women rugby players but no ladies footballers are ever included on these.

Ormond there is a difference in going to a play or a decent comedian and going to music in a pub. Against the head is to be shown every single week from the first week in February to the first week of June only five of these are international weekends

janesboro Munster win was great and i am sure with your family connection with it makes it special to you and also you been from Limerick, but most counties have great days in gaa and people who were there will look back at great fondness but i don't think the will agree with some beer company talking rubbish about every Irish man standing taller because of it, i was also talking about using a man who is dead to promote beer. There is not a hatred of rugby on here, people just want fairness on the coverage given. You are right people watch rugby but lots of people watch other sports as well but these don't get the anywhere near the same level of coverage, you just have to look at the poor coverage given to Katie Taylor last Friday night.

Grand Janesboro a half an All Blacks team in a midweek game on the Tuesday before the first test of the tour 37 years ago. Nobody is denying it was a fine achievement. It should bring back fond memories for people . However the degree of veneration ant the incessant commemorating as if it was a sporting event of colossal significance is embarrassing. This latest ad is nothing short of cringe inducing. "Every Irishman stood 12 feet tall" They did in my a**e. Nor do they now. I love sport. So do most of my friends. We all shake our heads when this topic comes up and say move on for Christ's sake. Katy Taylor has won Olympic gold. Stephen Roche won cyclingsTriple Crown. Barry McGuigan won a world title. Sonya O Sullivan is our most be medaled athlete of all time. All of these sporting achievements supercede Munster's defeat of the All Blacks both in terms of significance and stature. They all have two things in common. Nobody wrote a play about them. Nor is half the noise made about them as is made about Munster beating half an All Black team in a midweek game 37 years ago.

He did indeed Jonesboro. Barry McGuigan used to thank an awful lot of people after every fight and he would finish off by thanking Mr Eastwood. The song was a p**s take of that. It was very funny.

In spite of a full schedule of GAA football matches this weekend including Dublin V Mayo in Castlebar there has been no mention of GAA on the 6.1 News this evening. The only GAA news was on Monday (the death of Jim Nelson and injury to a Cork player in Cork v Dublin match)Of Rugby and racing was covered every day and cricket was dealt with on Monday Tuesday and Friday. Dublin 4 mentality.

I don't believe TV3 get any share of the license fee. But yeah, after checking around, RTE one and Two do get the bulk of the funding, around 55% I think. There appears to separate deductions for TG4, and RTE's support for TG4. The below is from 2 years ago, but I'd say its still accurate:
