Donegal for Sam

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

i think this is all silly talk, Jim and the boy s will only take 1 game at a time, Armagh, Meath will be hard to get over, no matter who we meet, Armagh would be a bogey team of ours, Meath would not be easy either in Croker, i hope Armagh, Monaghan win, to keep Ulster flying but it wont be easy. Dublin stand out, cant see any1 getting near them, now i hope i am wrong, but Dublin seem to have it all.

What dublin really lack for me is top quality players, bernard brogan and paul flynn are top quality players! There is too much interchange between the rest, the dubs boast about how anyone who can come off the bench is as good as the players they are replacing! I think they are no better than the cork team in 2010, only advantage dub has is they have a leinster championship to make them look like world beaters! They are their for the taking, if donegal are to be serious title contenders ( which they should be being ulater champions) they have to be beating armagh and meath! I fancy donegal to beat the dubs, they are set up to beat the dubs and dublin will have to change how they have being playing for the last couple of years to get past donegal which has to unsettle them!

The point I was trying to make was how difficult Donegal with their defensive setup made life so hard for Dublin. And that was system that was just beginning to develope.
If I'm right that day MDMA was taken off ,B brogan had not a good game so it shows that star players can be stopped in their tracks from delivering big performances.

Can't remember re MDMA but Brogan was excellent that day.

Might not have scored from play but was instrumental in almost all of Dublin's scores that day.

Can't agree there at all. Neil McGee had him well chaperoned.

That game is 3 years old. I think it would be lunacy to base any game in 2014 on something that happened 3 years ago. Things move on very quickly, it is all on the day, and you are only as good as your last couple of games. I think that in order for donegal to win the all ireland, there are some massive step ups in improvement needed from certain players, and I am unsure if it is possible for them to do it at this stage. That is not to say that I am blaming them or expect them to, they will try their best to do this, and they owe us nothing for their achievements and efforts over the past 4 seasons. I think that if we get to an all ireland semi final, we are really going to enjoy it, everything after that is a bonus.

We can only hope that each Donegal player can make it safely and healthily through the 70 + minutes and then we might give Dublin a game. ;)

I think we should be seeing all the top teams giving Dublin a tighter time of it this season. Many of the teams have had time and space to study Dublin, and I would be expecting that the likes of Mayo, Kerry and Cork should be staying that bit tighter to the Dubs if they do meet.

Donegal and Indeed Monaghan have a system which would certainly put different challenge to the Dubs. In the past, anybody that has dared play beautiful open football against Donegal, have suffered. Mainly as this plays directly into their hands, and they will force turnovers and counter.

Dublin have a superb attacking edge, and I think it would be a tight 70min battle. Say what you will about Donegal, but they have the conditioning and fitness to last 70mins, and have enough quality players to spring from the bench to refresh things.

I disagree ziggy, think gaa is the only sport in the world where everyone tries to talk their own teams chances! Kerry to beat donegal in the final ;-)

I say Jim McGuinness cant believe his luck, after a hangover year last year Donegal, are refreshed, Ulster champions again and looking as good as ever yet nobody is mentioning them as contenders. Surely they fancy their chances of going all the way. If Donegal do meet Dublin I actually fancy Donegal, just due to the way they set up! In 2012 Donegal suprised a strong Cork team in the semis because Cork kept trying to run up through the middle and kept getting swallowed up by the Donegal defence. I can see the same happening to Dublin this year if the two meet. Time will tell.

Is this the best prediction of all time? Time will indeed tell.

It will definitely go down in folklore if Donegal win Sam this year having beaten Dublin in the semi and then Kerry in the Final.
Don't get much better than that....
