Disrespect to national anthem

The anthem and parades should only be for finals.

I like the bit at the end, which drives the most placid of people into a twenty second frenzy of wild roaring and fist pumping euphoria.I always wondered what the those couple of lines mean as it sure does stir the blood.

Listen I respect your view but to me it's quite simple, I am Irish and happily so, but I don't need the Gaa to play our anthem to affirm my identity, I know who I am and where I'm from. But to be honest from a personal point of view I don't like patriotism anyway, I think it causes a lot of division and trouble in the world and that's why I'm not a big fan of anthems. They're ok at major international tournaments ie World cups and 6 nations etc but when there's no national team present I don't see the benefit of playing them.

I have to admit, us Dubs might we partly (or totally) to blame for this, from the late 70's on the Dublin fans used to get terribly excited when nearing the end of the national anthem. The way the tune is structured, it gives that little pause just before it plays out, and our lads just could not contain themselves.

I remember people giving out f*&k about it and how disrespectful it was at the time, then it just became common place.

Give a thought to us poor Galway hurling followers. We had to endure THREE renditions of 'Lovely Laois' back in June. Ohh my ears..my ears...

Missdownfantastic. I'm sure you are well aware then that the original fisrt line is not the one used now. ? And that it was included for the purpose of propaganda by a certain political party?

I find anthems awful cringy, I just stand and stay silent because I know you get slandered if you didn't.

O'Neills March is closer to my heart than the anthem of a 26 county Irish republic.

Foreverroyal, you can say Laochra or Fianna it's really not a big deal. I've heard it both ways but I don't listen/play/sing the anthem to be political anyway. I can't speak on behalf of other people but I just love hearing it at matches because it's one thing which unites the country - the fact we can choose to sing the island's anthem

Missdownfantastic. You are correct. But when it is put up on screen in croke park it is alway fianna that is included.
Ill be honest with you miss , most on here won't even know what we talking about , I was born in uk to a irish father and english mother during my summers in athboy I learned irish of which I can speak if not fluent certainly higher than most. I also studied history to more so fit in when we moved home. Now while I can sing anthem even though I'm tone deaf most don't know the words around me and it was funny in my younger days been able to sing it with a english accent the looks I got was priceless. But each to their own. I never would scorge anyone who doesn't want to sing it.

For me the anthem should be played and treated with respect until the finish (it is only partly played anyway) - what is so difficult about that? Try leaving Casement Park with your head on your shoulders if you disrespect it - it is the only ground I have attended where the home crowd remain silent until it has finished though there are a fair few grounds I have not been to so I assume there are others. Some asked what the translation of the final bit played are - it actually is not that exciting and certainly not what is whipping the crowd into a frenzy - if anything the pause seems to give supporters the cue to start roaring their teams for the match rather than respecting their anthem.

We don't keep it just for finals , we play it at all championship games and why change anything. As Missdownfantastic pointed out about playing it before games and what it meant to GAELS in the Six counties. People in other parts might not understand but I do.

Our national anthem is an integral part of who we're, we should totally respect it and wait till it's finished. Fans and the teams. I agree. Fines should be placed in order

Fines?

Get real, most counties have f&*k all money as it is!
Anthems are something that create a collective pride, but this is just pre-match jitters, maybe the GAA should tell the managers to instill this into their players and see does this solve this minute problem. I'm sure they would comply is asked!

Marching behind bands, singing national anthems & the latest one, a minute's silence now before every single county game.

I'm losing the will to live before the game starts, and no, it isn't because Donegal are playing!!!

No it isn't it's just a song at the end of the day, nothing more.

Your right!

Nothing worse than hearing a rusty aul recording over the sound system. I also find it silly how in double headers only one game usually the second gets the anthem.
