The Sky coverage hits home

It might be more entertaining than watching Mayo steamroll Cork next Saturday, nothing a player revolt in cork will sort out though after the game to get the manager ousted....... Again

Can't argue with the first part of that. We will probably get steamrolled and to be honest if it wasn't Cork playing I probably wouldn't watch it either.

Extraman' You should know by know that the chances of getting a civil reply or be shown any type of compassion on Here is not going to happen.Too many Upstarts that Spend to much time online or watching TV rather than doing something Constructive with there lives.

In fairness the whole sky thing has been well ploughed over although I do sincerely feel for your father' I think it is time to move on.
The only advice i could give is to try and Stream the Game from your computer' either watch it on the computer Screen or get a Scart lead to run from your PC to the TV. I have streamed a couple of games "As i suppose half the Country has" and to be honest Your father would get more pleasure listening to the game on radio as with so many streaming the matches the Quality is very poor with the game freezing/sticking.

I used to Enjoy listening to games and particularily Boxing on the radio' it can be very Exciting if you get a good Commentator.
Its a pity C.Cullens is no longer commentating on Highland. Anyways hope you Can help your father get some form of viewing or listening pleasure. We will all be Old ourselves some day.

Ref- rebelcork or royaldunne's comments' they are starting to sound like some Derry men' as i recall we would get sent back to hills with our tails between our legs and Monaghan were going to embarrass us.!! Comments not to be taking to seriously and rather amuse more than anything' For neither Cork or Meath have a Snowballs Chance in Hell of progressing in this years Championship.

Then What Would i know..? Then again I wasnt to far Wrong regarding the Ulster championship' Was I..!!

PS Hurling made very dissapointing viewing Today. Expected Wexford to Step up a bit more than they did considering there recent good run of form. Wasnt that surprised to see Tipp winning but also thought the Dubs would make it a closer contest.

They're welcome to them. Dublin will probably hammer whoever they're against and watching Donegal playing isn't exactly premium entertainment either.

Watching Cork yesterday looked like a poor imitation of Donegal.

We have been over this time & time again & the soloutions haven't changed.

1. Watch the game in a neighbour's house.

2. Go to a pub where the atmosphere will be fantastic.

3. Listen to the game on the radio.

4. Watch it online.

There off the top of my head are 4 soloutions that were not available 20 years ago bar listening on the radio.

The biggest problem with GAA on Sky at the moment is the desperate standard of entertainment being served up.

So far I can't think of one game that really got the blood flowing & I'm sure the Sky executives must be wondering what in the name of God they're getting for their money.

It is becoming increasingly clear to me that the amateur ethos of the GAA is going to clash big time with the professionalism of Sky & that they are not a good fit.

Our emotional ties to the games will not I fear translate to foreign audiences who like some bang for their buck & I speak as someone who was broadly in favour of the experiment.

Maybe things will change now that we are getting to the business end of things but I have my doubts, I think GAA is essentially an Irish thing, that only we ge,t & maybe that's for the best.

I threw this suggestion out on a different thread, but here goes :
Why can't RTE get the rights to show highlights of these games later that night ? They already have this arrangement in respect of Heineken Cup and FAI friendlies.

cuede,

I'm not sure about "millions", I don'yt know the viewing figures off the top of my head but I don't think they're that great.

Don't get me wrong, I would love the thing to work, it's just that the games that Sky have shown up to now have not been great & if we are trying to sell the GAA as to the average British Sky Sports watcher then we should put top notch games on.

The problem then is RTE not getting these top games.

Problems, problems...........

Marlon i think there is upto 7 million people in Britain with Irish heritage.Correct me if im wrong on that, but there is a market most certainly for our fantastic games across the pond.

Sorry lads i didnt mean all those millions have watched,or will want to watch our games.Just emphasing the market that can be tapped into.Even a small percentage of this is quite sizeable.

I think what it does show is that Sky managed to secure first dibs on the Quarter Final matches - they were never going to throw the money in without securing exclusive right to a couple of plum games and here they are.

"have a right to see the national game when they already pay a hefty TV licence" as an over 70, your dad should receive a free TV Licence...

Assume it wasnt part of the deal and Sky got exclusive rights to the games and part of their deal RTE haven't been allowed show highlights..

Spare a thought for Armagh (If they beat Meath on Saturday) then the quarter final will be the third time that their game is on Sky this year. (v Roscomman, v Meath and then v Donegal/Dubs).
anyway set him up online .

People in Britain already had access to the games via Premier Sport for £20 a year or something cheaper still. Saying they didn't have access is a lie. Telling people to shut up whinging and subscribe is a cop out too. Be careful what you wish for.

Dont you just love the Irish obsession with all things English. Sky's coverage is amazing this year according to most people but when the same commentators, analysists etc were involved with TV3 for the last few years they were all useless
