Mayo v Cork

He can draw a line under it. No publicity, no fuss, pick up the phone, ring Cuthbert, admit he was less than gracious in victory by not shaking the man's hand but say he was still angry after it. It's done now, move on, it's a game of football.

Delighted with the win. First half was not great. Cork with 13 men behind the ball (maybe if they should more adventure would have been further ahead) and in fairness we done well to go in level after going four points down. At half time I told a friend of mine on the phone that 1 point win will do.

We blitzed them in the third quarter and could have had a goal or two with Vaughan and Moran opting for points instead. Now the disappointing thing is of course conceding two goals. Andy Moran had his hands on his head when O O'Se scored his goal shouting "keep the heads" and low and behold goal for Cork inside 30 seconds. The free after that second Cork goal from Cillian was vital and then a great point by Vaughan.

Mayo turned Cork over inside the Cork 65, nine times which yielded 1-5 for us and that is one of the key strengths in this team.
Mayo teams in the past would have been beat but this team don't do panic. Make no mistake our performance will need to improve to beat Kerry. Kerry will probably be thinking the same from their game with Galway. Has the makings of a great game.

Also hard luck to Cork - I think yesterday was Corks 10th quarter final appearance in a row!

Nobody from Cork said the players were dirty. The comments were 'they are good at tactical fouling upfront' and 'streetwise'. As everybody says, the comments from the Cork management were silly and they backfired. 'Streetwise' is the pejorative form of 'experienced' in a sense - a complement if viewed like that . Though obviously not meant as a complement it was hardly a disgrace or questioning a person's 'integrity'.

In terms of Cork players attempting to physically upset the Mayo players - did not see it. There was hardly a booking in the game it was so timid. Eoin Cadogan caught McLoughlin with his elbow on the way out with the ball (something that Seamus O Shea repeated on Fintan Gould five minutes later). They were the only things that were even remotely close to dirty in the game. If Mayo people are complaining about rough housing tactics from Cork, then they will win absolutely nothing. The physicality starts now. Sunday resembled netball.

bennybunny - I don't think Cork were dirty, plenty of niggles here and there, both teams were not going to back down from each other and its the business end of the championship so players give it their all. Cork were not going to lie down for Mayo and could have snatched a draw but I think we just about deserved it.

I dont think they were dirty but it was clear that they were trying to rattle Mayo by being physical but our lads didnt back down and gave as good as they got.... Whatever about Cuthbert saying Mayo were streetwise, what really annoyed the Mayo players and management id say was the Cork selector naming two of our players. It was completely uncalled for and incredibly stupid. It gave Mayo the extra motivation they needed. I think Horan was right not to shake Cuthberts hand. He was standing up for his players as he should do
