on what basis liam?...evidence please?...keegan was the clear star half back in the championship last season...exemplified by being nominated for player of the year and probably would have won it if mayo had beaten dublin...make your argument now without blue tinted glasses please

James is quality and has been underrated for a while, not as good as Keegan though but then again I think he's one of the best footballers in the country. He's unlucky that there was such stiff competition at wing back last year. Dessie Mone, Keegan, Jack, James, Boyle are all quality.

exactly caislean..good to see a dub who is objective and has some semblance of reality...mccarthy is an excellent footballer 1 of the best wing backs in the country but there is just some players better than him in his position sadly with keegan being the best of them at the present moment

I don't know James personally, but I would like to think he would be very very happy with the All Ireland winners medals that he has safely tucked away over an all star, which are a nice bonus.

i would agree dubsfan...im sure another all ireland or 2 he would much prefer than a guy on an internet forum going on about how he would take him over the whole mayo half back line (regarded as the best in the country)

Keegan,Boyle and Vaughan are all excellent half backs. So to McCarthy. Not much to choose between any of them.

There are a lot of quality half backs around in fairness. You could add McGlynn and Thompson to the list aswell.

yes you would have to add a resurgent donegal to that list..what really made them special in 2012 was their half backs breaking forward taking and creating scores most notably mcglynn..it was missing from their game last year

Frank's point off his weaker left foot in the semi-final against Cork after charging up the field was a sight to behold.

Lee Keegan......the guy who started at half forward in the AI Final and ended up marking an O'Gara with a torn hamstring and was completely ineffective second half.

Definitely overrated boys. Not a natural halfback, not in the same league as James McCarthy.

I'd take McCarthy hands down.

Lee Keegan is a class act. Super footballer who always seems to pop up with scores.

Like Master said earlier James Mc should've got a half back All-Star instead of Cian O'Sullivan. Cian in turn should of been in midfield instead of Aidan O'Shea, the man whom Cian lead a merry dance round Croker last Sept.

He didnt get one last year because there were two wing backs better than him. And i dont know what all ireland final you were watching but Lee Keegan didnt start wing forward or go back marking o Gara in the second half. That was Keith Higgins(one of the best corner backs in the game)McCarthy is an axcellent player And yes you can accuse me of being bias but I think Keegan is definately the best wing back in the country.

Says you Fabio....says you...

Wouldnt swap Keegan for McCarthy in a fit !

Best half back line in Ireland all fit and available would be

Karl Lacey Cian O'Sullivan James McCarthy

Incredible talent right there

i agree mesamis...aidan o shea highly questionable selection after dublin cleverly exploited him in the all ireland final but i imagine the selectors liked having a 'natural midfielder' fetching high balls and so on...mccarthy over cian o sullivan yes at half back that is
