Watched it in slo-mo half a dozen times, what appears to me is that Burke had O Gara in a headlock(can't conclusively say a fish hook) and o Gara then bit Burkes finger, Burke then reacted to this by throwing(and missing) a punch at o Gara. It didn't look like Burke was fish hooking though, just looked like a headlock and as o Gara tried to shrug him off, the finger was there and he bit him, provoking a very angry response from Burke. I suppose we'll never truly know what exactly happened but if the powers that be find o Gara guilty he should be banned for an extended period. If Burke is found guilty of the alleged fish hook, he too should be given a ban. The picture you showed Waynol was after the bite had happened I think.

Juggernaut.....

Check out the tweet this morning from RTE sport showing a picture from the incident. Pretty strange looking "headlock"

Pretty conclusive that he was fish hooking O'Gara.

And Philly didn't react.

Classy from a side full of class, On and off the pitch. :)

Nah on a serious note though, This is all petty.

Was actually scarlehhh for Meath trying to ruffle feathers and cause riots when they where losing by 15 points.

If Burke is found guilty of fish hooking then there's no way you can ban O'Gara, simply as that for me.

I'm actually delighted with O'Gara. I've never been his biggest fan (think he's flaky and a liability at times) but yesterday after he put in one of his textbook top class tackles, he was swarmed by a few, was thrown about, had punches thrown at him and was possibly fishhooked. After all that he got up, took another push from a Meath man and he held the nerve to walk away. Bravo EOG.

I love Eoghan O'Gara.

I don't know why. Maybe its the fact i hear alot of people around me slaughter him and he has been made a scapegoat on many occasions while players who are seen as our better players like Berno or MDMA can have a shocker, And not a single bad word would be said.

The guy is class though. Injuries haven't helped him much in the past few years, Shame he hasnt held a decent spell in the starting 15, Cause he is capable of it.

He is raw. That run for his first goal attempt yesterday that went wide was frightening, Took the ball down and just ran straight through about 5 Meath men like they where u12's .. His turn for his goal was exceptional too. For a big man.

I don't believe EOG is dirty, I genuinely dont. And i dont think he would possibly bite someone for the sake of biting, If Burke had his hand in O'Gara's mouth trying to fish-hook him (which is every bit as likely as O'Gara just chomping him), Then i'd understand O'Gara biting cause not only would i have had a nibble meself, I'd have taken Burkes finger clear off his hand.

But, Until any kind of decision has been made, O'Gara is innocent. And so is Burke.

All this is merely hear-say so far.

I agree Mesamis

Change the title to "Meath player lands 14.5 stone blue monster using only finger as bait" ...

Seriously though, its very disappointing and out of character for the Meath lads to complain in this way, especially as they were the agressors in this incident. Clearly one of their tactics was to try to needle our lads with the known short fuses, Connolly, McCauley and O Gara. They were at it all match with the late tackles and the follow ups.

Maybe it was an attempt to deflect attention from the lack of any meaningful performance by Meath, but I think they let their county down in more ways than one yesterday, the Meath teams I grew up respecting (grudgingly) would always have left each and every incident on the field of play, or taken steps to gain retribution the next time the teams met. To go moaning to the ref and the media smacks too much of soccer and Sky Sports.

I hope that some older wiser heads in Meath GAA will put an end to this pretty sharp and remind the current group of their history and reputation that they are now the trustees for.

Few things here

1) the bite. If he doesn't want to be bitten don't fishhook what response did he expect? A finger licking?
2) Why was he in over the Dublin player? A 1 on 1 coming to nothing and suddenly 4 other Meath men arrive pulling out of 1 man on the ground!
3)Connollys reason for not shaking that clowns hand have been explained
4) Dublins sportsmanship questioned? What about when the Meath lad took the mid air collision and went down? Where were the heap of Maeth teammates dashing in then (see point 2) no It was Cluxton dashing out to see if he was ok and then O,Carroll was on the scene. After last years final v Mayo several Dublin players went straight to there opponent to console them before celebrating there win. Shocking sportsmanship all round by Dublin

A few things on this:

K Reilly, Tormey and Micky Burke all threw punches which, even if they don't connect, are a straight red offence.
In fairness to Reilly, he was only diggin O'Gara in the side to try and get him off him.
Tormey's was silly as it was so obvious I was sure watchin it at the time that he'd get sent off.

As regards the bite, the only conclusion I can reach from looking at it is that O'Gara did bite Micky Burke, so he may get whatever suspension is coming his way, and nobody should feel the slightest bit sorry for him.
Burke himself might have been "fish hooking" O'Gara but that's not so clear cut. If he was he should get a suspension too.

The Sunday Game panellists last night were pretty awful in there analysis of the incident.
It was all "allegedly" when talking about the bite but they seemed to have no such caution when accusing M Burke of "fish hooking".
They were falling over themselves to praise O'Gara's maturity and calmness.

There's nothing mature or calm in needlessly fouling and then lying on top of the opposition full back when the game was already won and following that up by biting an opponents finger in the subsequent melee!

Sunday Game got it bang on for once, one of the most respected players in the modern era, Dermot Earley, said even he would have done the same if someone stuck a finger in his mouth, hear hear for honesty!

Also while were at it during that scrap number 12 for Meath struck Philly McMahon in the face maybe he should be suspended too.

Glory Hunter, I am not defending anyone biting but it is the sort thing you might expect if your put your fingers into someone's mouth! He should shut the fk up and take his medicine same as Meath and Dubs players have done over far far worse over generations.

Anybody that honestly says punches weren't thrown needs to really get their eyes checked.
Why did Burke put his fingers in o gara mouth if not fishooking ? Also did anybody see o gara remove his gum shield during it all so as to leave bite marks as I didn't
