Biting incident

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lads, If Meath feel they have a case to put forward that a bite took place, Then they have every right to bring it to the powers that be. I know Meath never come out whinging after games (Mick O'Dowd only 11 days ago praised Dub v Meath as games like that), But then again its not every day you hear of a potential biting incident.

I have no problem with the allegation being made, My problem is the mass hysteria that fora like these will cause. Fans and people who just want to throw dirt at Dublin GAA will suggest ridiculous bans etc before there is even a case let alone a verdict. Thats the frustrating part.

The title of this thread really needs to be changed. It is giving a very biased viewpoint and is extremely unfair on Eoghan O'Gara.

______

I mentioned this up above Mes... I agree 100% with you

Very very misleading and bias title.

Either close the he thread or change the title admin... it's completely unfair and not a true reflection of this incident

Come on now... lets keep this a fair debate

Looked at the incident again and there is no angle from the TV to show what happened, what is clear is that MOD was clearly carrying on with EOG when there was no need, he had pulled him off Reilly (who you could say started the whole thing) and then had another go at him. From what I could see of the camera angle he then put his arm around EOG's neck and was pulling him as he was on the ground, it was after this MOD complained of been bitten. As I said you cannot see if there was a bit or not but what is clear is that by this stage MOD is the clear aggressor. From what I saw on the TV I would have no sympathy with MOD, he got a yellow (which should have been a red -not the argument here) so he should have just kept his mouth shut and moved on.

sorry, who is MOD.

Can't believe some of the comments and hysteria about this.

There was a bite and the skin was broken. That's fact.
As a result of this, it has to be reported to both team doctors for safety reasons.

Mod reported on it after his post match interviews. He never once discussed it as part of the game or associated it with any of the reason for Meath losing. Watch any of the interviews he done after the game, even the one he done for the news AFTER the incident was reported, he still never brought it up there, because it had no bearing on the performance or result.

It was reported because it had to be reported. Any of the lads sticking the boot in saying it's sour grapes need to open their eyes. Show my any part of mods post match interviews where he blames someone else or whinges about the result or performance.

Some of the pictures and videos doing the rounds make for rather incriminating evidence it has to be said.

Hopefully there'll be a lengthy punishments dished out as a result of all this.

What was it Galvin got for fish hooking Cadogan, eight weeks or something like that?

Add in the numerous punches to the back of O'Gara's head and Mickey Burke should surely be on the receiving end of a very lengthy ban.

Now fair enough O'Gara was holding and getting involved with Reilly on the ground, which was rightly a yellow card offence, but you ended up with two or three lads rushing in and punching him from behind and nearly tearing the jersey off his back. Paddy O'Rourke grabbed Costello around the head / neck from behind, and just threw him to the ground, an incredibly dangerous thing to do to a young lad. Two yellow cards for O'Gara and Reilly, followed by reds for Burke and O'Rourke would have been much more appropriate.

Very impressed by the discipline shown by some of the Dublin players, especially O'Gara. It was a bit like the Dublin - Laois game from a few years ago when the only bit of fight came from a few players trying to act the hard man after getting played off the park.

Some of the media coverage of this has been laughable too, every paper is a tabloid when it comes to incidents like this and it's sad to so many of them go down the sensationalist route. The Indo even claimed to have "exclusive bite pictures" which showed little more than Burke grabbing O'Gara around the neck / face from behind. The lads on the Sunday Game called it pretty much as it was I reckon.

Serious revisionism going on here lads...O'Gara headbutted Reilly on the ground. Reilly went mental with him and so did rest of Meath players. Burke grabbed O Gara to pull him off him...he was behind him so he'd want to be fairly skilled to put his finger in his mouth on purpose.

Storm in a teacup but lets get it right, yeah?

Jaysus wept.

Oh right, so Reilly after winning his free, with his team behind, decided to hold onto O Gara with O Gara on top of him for the craic did he?

Brilliant post!!

Micky Burke just tripped and his fingers fell into O'Gara's mouth.........he had also tripped repeatedly causing his clenched fist to repeatedly "fall" onto O'Gara's head......;)

Right this is my view on the hold saga.
I'm a regular poster on this but had to create new account as forgot password. Anyways there is alot of bias going on which is to be expected but also some very good posts.

From my viewing of it through the link that was posted above something happens to Michael Burke while he is trying to pull O gara away. Lads on saying there are several punches been thrown i do not see its all just pushing and dragging of players. O gara first of all holds the meath full back down to the ground which starts it off, Michael Burke comes in pulls him away unsuccesfully thus does it again this time with his arm around his shoulder with hand wandering over o gara's face when the incident takes place. Clearly something happens as the player complains about it.

Nobody should defend such an incident if it was a bite. Also posters asking for the title of the thread to be changed Why? there is an incident which may well be a bite and most likely is therfore the title is relevant as its an incident involving an alleged bite!

Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it, that does not make sense.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit.

Didn't see any "punches" to O'Gara's head as referred to above. Plenty of manhandling and pushing but no punches. If he got a proper punch he wouldn't have got up as quickly as he did. Agree with Tomas O'Se and others. Meath players over reacted, O'Gara may have over reacted. Heat of moment stuff. Move on. Dublin have some squad of players.
