Ciaran Whelan proposal to revamp championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

provincial leagues already exist in the shape of the o byrne cup, mcgrath cup and so on
so why would you have them in january
and then have them again in place of the national league?
bit of a strange suggestion from whealo.
as for champions league style formats I dont like that idea at all,
the champions league groups are boring and wouldnt attract crowds in gaa style at all
you have so many dead rubber games in them that mean nothing to the countys where as at least
in the provincial championships at the moment a win for louth over westmeath
or leitrim over roscommon means something to these countys even if they dont go on and win a provincial title

An advantage of provincial groups anyway is that it'll take two games off the league and be used in the championship instead. Teams will have 5 league games and at least 4 championship games. The provincial semi-finals will be retained in Leinster and Ulster while all provinces will retain their provincial finals. The All-Ireland series itsef will mainly be the same.
