Monaghan v Donegal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's the oldest of the old cliches but this one will be decided all on the day. I can't separate the teams. It could take a defensive slip, a harsh refereeing call, a moment of brilliance to decide it. As the saying goes, "Talk is cheap", so the two teams can simply go hell for leather at it on Sunday and may the best team win. We really owe Monaghan one, but they will not relinquish their Ulster title without a hell of a fight!

Ulster Final day is one of the great days of the year and this final is a hard one to call. Despite seeing Monaghan win in both finals against Donegal I think Donegal will shade it as they have more forwards with scoring potential.

Really looking forward to this game. To very even teams but i think monaghans defence is slightly the better of the two. If donegal are to win this one they will need to get a goal or 2, and murphy needs to be played near the goals for this to happen. Just cant see monaghan getting a goal, plenty of points though. I have a feeling Donegal will fire out of the blocks in the third quarter and seal the game from there. Predict a 2 goal blitz at that stage to see of the farney men.

Serious quiet alright some ridiculous other forums up on HS, few days before Ulster Final can,t believe there,s no banter at all about game, going back to this time last year was all the chat about Donegal going for three in a row maybe things will get going from tomorrow. Was just chatting to someone today we were just saying that there was no hype about at all, no flags up, talking to people saying that they were going to watch game on TV instead of going to Clones.

Yip - People are very cautious hence not much banter.
Last year Monaghan fans were quietly confident with nothing to lose - This year they have an Ulster title to lose.
Donegal need to prove last year was a flash in the pan or Jim's legacy is slightly dented.

I for one am as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Can't call it.

Is the match sold out? it would be a disgrace if not, seeing as it is the last final in clones before it is moved to casement

Its pretty much sold out bar a few terrace tickets left. Agree with Lockjaw all on the day, going for home advantage to get us over the line.

It should be a cracker. Two very evenly matched outfits in my opinion.

I'm going to go with Monaghan to win it again this year. They're a good side, and they play with a lot of heart. Donegal do as well, of course, but I think talk of their resurgence is premature. Maybe that will change after this game!

It wont be pretty but enthralling all the same. Monaghan might be relying on McManus for scores, can Donegal do a man marking job on him ? Monaghan backs have the measure of Donegal FF line will this change on Sunday ? I doubt it... Monaghan by a point or 2

Shaggy legend
Bit early to be talking like that Has Malachy overseen a championship victory with Monaghan in CROKE PARK.
I guess I'm right in listing the following ---- Div 3 champions::::Div 2 Champions ---- ONE Ulster title Now for a county who have been success starved over the years Malachy has done well And don't forget Monaghanare in Div one which , if they stay there can only be for the good of the team.

Now let's look at THE DIVINE INSPIRATION (( THE GREAT JIM MC GUINNESS))
This is Donegal before JIM
2009 ///beaten by Antrim at home in the championship :: hammered by Cork in CP later that year
2010 beaten by Armagh in Crossmaglen , I'd say that was a very low point in Donegal football
First season under Jim --- Div 2 title ----First Ulster Title in 19 years and that's after loosing finals in 1993/1998/2002/2004/2006. Beat Kildare in a thriller after extra time then lost by two points to eventual AI champions.
Retain Ulster and beats some of the really big names in Gaelic football on the way to Sam
So shaggy do you not think MOR has it all to do to equal Jim's record
What I forgot to say is that in 2012 around 11players featured in Crossmaglen in 2010 played on the winning Sam team.
Can M o R lead Monaghan to two in a row. /// I for one doubt it Can't see us playing so bad again as we done last year and if we have improved since last year Monaghan will also have to improved to beat us Sunday It will be Tight but I can see the Diamond once again welcoming not one but two Ulster winning title teams In my opinion I think it will be a great day for Donegal football Heading back tomorrow as I can't miss a big day like Sunday. Hope all Donegal Fans get in early to support the Minors

Tough call though I will go for Donegal as they have fewer miles on the clock and have taken fewer hard hits in terms of opposition faced.

I tell ya what hi- you can keep the Divine Inspiration and we'll take our chances on Malachy. Jim is a great manager and no disrespect to him at all but I know which of them I'd pick and it'd be Malachy every time

Monaghan to win by 3

Should be a very interesting game, a lot tighter than the Leinster final no doubt. There's very little to separate the two teams, both are very solid in defence and have good attacking options up front but I just think that Monaghan's impressive home record will see them over the line in Clones, not by much though, shouldn't be any more than a point or 2 in it either way.

I havent really seen anything that special about MOR' Sure he has basically Copied the Doneagal/JMG system and drummed it into his players. And whatever about managers' it is up to the players to perform on the day.

N.Magee in my opinion will be well able to look after Mcmanus' and if Not then I think The only other player to do so is the one SOE has left out of the team and that is K.Lacey.

I had a bad feeling heading into Clones last year and so it proved to be. However I think most of the pressure is on the farney men this year for obvious reasons.

Not long to go now. Will try and get in for at least the 2nd half of the Minor game.

Looking forward to this one on Sunday! Can't see there being more than a few points either way! I'd love to see monaghan win but I can see Donegal sneaking it! Hope I'm wrong! Word is Lacey will start even though he wasn't named! I really can't see the point of these "dummy teams" been named at all!!!
