Any Meath man that goes to Croker thinking they can compete with Dublin will get some reality check.

Unfortunately Meath are well down the pecking order and Dublin -12 points will be a safe bet

Listen I know we're very much up against it and even though we're actually better now than we were in 2012 and 2013, this year the Dubs really could hammer us. But having said that, if we don't go to Croker with a bit of hope and enthusiasm then there's really no point in going at all because it would make for a pretty dreary occasion.

Whether I actually believe it or not, I'm going to tell every Dub I'm talking to on sunday that Meath are going to win, and why? for fun of course :-)

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I hope it's closer than 12 points but i'm worried it could be that bad. Not that I think we're a poor team but Dublin are class at the moment. We'd need them to have a very off day to have any chance but I think after two complacent displays already that the Dubs will turn up well switched on for this.

On a side note, I always liked drinking in the Maples on Iona Road. Lovely standing on the steps outside with a pint on a sunny day. Haven't been able to do it in recent years though.

With all due respect, you probably know very little about the Meath-Dublin rivalry. We always go to Croker with the hope of beating anybody we play, even with average Meath teams we will give anybody a game. There is a level of desire and commitment expected from Meath players. I don't think we have a great team but an improving one. Why would we go with a completely defeatist attitude like and no hope? Dublin are the best team around but anybody from Meath and Dublin know games between ourselves take on a life of their own. Dublin favourites certainly, but we've the ability to compete if the correct tactics are introduced by the management.

I think it's fair to say that this is the type of guff that annoys people from other counties. Such rubbish. In the 90's both teams were both at the top of the pyramid jousting for top spot and yes at stages little things made a huge difference due to the fine margins involved. Since then, when has the form book been thrown out the window?

Like, apart from the early-mid 90's when have these games taken on a life of their own? 2010? Dublin were finding their feet with Gilroy's defensive game and Meath exploited the confusion. Wexford were beating them by 7 points in the previous round at one stage, should've finished them off and eventually ran out of steam in extra-time. Hardly a massive leap from the form book in the next round for Meath to win it. Since 2010 and for a good while before Meath have been plucky but ultimately off the pace.

Now as I said elsewhere on this thread, I think Meath have a decent chance but for footballing and tactical reasons. Not because of any rivalry or other cliched waffle like that.

Of course we can compete we always have and we always will. Will that be enough? Very hard to know. But as the day nears I'm getting slightly more confident.

This game will be tight and hard won by the Dubs I think, any talk of -12 is madness....this is Dublin v Meath and i'm expecting Dublin to come out on top but only pulling away in the last 10 or 15 mins.

Ya they only pulled away against Kerry in last 4-5 mins last year and how much did they win by? 7-8 points.

Might be reasonably close for 50 but they will destroy Meath in last 20. Meath are footballers. Dublin are athletes and footballers. Meaths fitness levels against Kildare were not as high as they need to be

For me Kevin Reilly is an old style full back who won't cope well on Sunday. He has been a good servant but very over-hyped

Kevin Reilly is one of the best full backs around, way better that rory o carroll. KR will not be troubled in the air.
We need him on the field for the whole game though, if not we could be in serious trouble.

Reilly is a good full back but well see how he copes with 70 minutes of incessant pressure on Sunday.I fancy minimum 2 Dublin goals. Some day well convert most of our goal oppurtunities and score 5 or 6 goals.Sunday could be that day.

The Seal I agree with you one hundred per cent. Kevin Reilly is a fantastic footballer. Tiobard you should take a trip up to the home of hurling. You will see Cuchulainns birthday place up in the Wee County.

Kevin Reilly is an excellent player - but I really can't see him lasting 70mins on Sunday.

Meath are capable of an upset this Sunday, I have no doubt about that, I think that MOD is shrewd and I would predict we will see some interesting match ups in personnel. The way the game has evolved there has been less and less one on one battles and as a consequence there has been far more lose play with players receiving possession uncontested. No one has laid a finger on the Dublin forwards yet this year but come Sunday they could be in for a rude awakening. Have Meath the legs to see out the game, probably not, but if they take a few goal chances themselves they could make it interesting.
