Richieq exactly. Jack Quinn had mighty battles with the dubs. The 60s were very tough games when we did meet. The Dublin Meath rivalry is a lot older than 80s and when someone says it ain't it kinda shows that their prediction could be as off the wall. Hon the Royal. Ahh waynol quick question....... Will you go home to Meath on Sunday eve if we should win????

Your examples of Kerry/Cork and Galway/Mayo may be more regular opponents of each other because smaller provinces means they are more likely to be drawn to face each other, no?

What time is this game on at :::1400 hours
Ulster final must be 1600. Which is about right as Donegal minors would be on at 1400 hours At that it gives Donegal supportes a chance as otherwise some of us would leave home at 8///8-30 to be in time for the minor game.

I can remember those games, they were nip and tuck, Mattie Kerrigan missed a last min pen to win it in one of them as I recall. And that was a Dublin team that reached 6 AI Finals in a row!

I'm confident Meath can put in a big display in the Leinster Final.Whilst we faded for a while in Kildare game it's obvious to me Micko and the selectors are trying to build a team to play summer football in Crokerr. If we play to our potential we can rattle the Dubs and maybe even spring a surprise.Ok the odds are against us as Dublin are an excellent well drilled super fit outfit but every team is beatable and there'll be no pressure on the Meath lads as nobody is giving us a chance.Really think we can do it.On a side note loved the video posted few pages back.Great banter & good laugh well done.

Touchy or what!! I'm only making the point that playing in Croke Park makes an already difficult task harder for Meath. It's not a "whinge", I have no problem in going to Clones, Croke Park or the moon if that's what it takes. And for your information, yes, the same point has been made about Clones where Monaghan are unbeaten in 17 games. A coincidence? I think not.
how does it ? meath played their semi final in croke park too if kildare had of beat meath they would be playing all 3 leinster games in croke park aswell as dublin and last year and this year if kildare had of won leinster and the all ireland they would have played all their games in croke park aswell, i dont hear people whinging about them getting to play in croker aswell. dublin dont train in croke park, where as monaghan can train in clones tipp can train in thurles and so on monaghan have been playing in clones for years and how many ulster titles has it been over last 20 years? the simple fact is they now have a good team thats why hey are winning them matches oh last but not least didnt brazil have the mother of all home advantages and didnt they suffer their biggest ever defeat not to mention the biggest ever defeat in a world cup semi final?

I thought I was the only one with a Dublin woman, well sure, holy God and all that! Trouble is though, I live in Dublin, still use the Kepak jersey, much more intimidating than Mr. Tayto.

Jaysus hill, that was some post. I hope you feel better after getting that out.
The original point, which has been lost in the mists of time, is that I don't give Meath a chance in hell of winning on Sun.
They are Div 2, Dublin are the best team in the country. Meath have injury & fitness issues, Dublin are firing on all cylinders. And yes the game is in Croke Park not Navan. Now you may not see anything in this but I think it is a factor. I'm not whinging about it, I leave that to the Tyrone lads, but playing on your own ground is an advantage. Monaghan are unbeaten in 17 in Clones, if they had the same form away, we would be talking about them winning 5 in a row not Dublin. Playing at home is an advantage, it is in soccer, rugby, basketball etc etc. Denying such an obvious fact just makes you look foolish.

the fact monaghan are winning is becuase they have their best panel of players and best manager they have had in the last 20 years nothing to do with where the match is being played. other sports buy into it so much that their psyche for games gets influenced its only happening in the gaa now as its just a way to try and diminish dublin winning instead of the plain fact that we currently have a good panel better than we have had in years. dublin lost more leinster championship matches in croke park to teams like laois and westmeath but only lost once in 40 years outside croke park in leinster in the same period and before 2006 played as many games outside croker as in it. like i said brazil had the hole country behind them and they had their biggest ever defeat playing at home was no advantage the simple fact was they had their worst set of players in years thats why they lost that way

Everything is poised nicely for Meath to put in a big performance in my opinion. You even read the thoughts of fellow supporters and the mood in Meath seems to be one of we're going well - you never know. In Dublin, they are respectful and wary of the Meath challenge but nobody is contemplating defeat either. Whatever pressure there is, it's on Dublin.
Another thing as we get closer to the week of the game and the previews build up, I can see attention being drawn to Dublin's use of substitutes and Meath's second half fade-out against Kildare. I think that's going to be the biggest thing that will swing all the predictions Dublin's way. From a Meath point of view I like this as it gives Meath a chance to work on that second half fade-out while being written off.
As for the Dublin subs, they are good but I was looking at the programme from the last day. Amongst the subs are Denis Bastick, Bryan Cullen, Eoghan O'Gara, Mick Fitzsimons and Daragh Nelson. These are good players but I wouldn't get excited about any of them either. Of course the young guns Cormac Costello and Jack McCaffrey are there and I would see them as dangerous but overall I would acknowledge the strength Dublin have on the bench but I wouldn't get carried away with it. I would also be curious to see the impact these subs will have when the games are closer.
Finally Meath have fast forwards. Clondalkindub regularly made the point that Dublin have a fast half-back line but I don't see that same pace in the forwards. At least not compared to Meaths. If the game can open up a bit and become a game of one-on-ones, that should suit Meath provided the second half is an improevment on the last day. All things considered I think Meath have a really good chance.
