Four supporters follow Mayo

Not so many years ago, so the story goes, mayo hurlers were playing in Leitrim and had to recruit the local sergeant , a mayo man with no hurling, to stand in goal. Time to forget about this particular beautiful game in Mayo, and leave hurling to the hurling counties. Clearly little or no interest in the sport among mayo people. Simply a drain on resources??

Mayo hurling has come a long way since that story, if it's true ,Miler. Tooreen & Ballyhaunis are both strong clubs & Westport, Castlebar & Ballina are fairly handy. Mayo are at a respectable level considering it only has a small tradition of hurling & has leapfrogged your neighbours, Roscommon, who do have a hurling history. A bit of recognition for reaching the Ring semi-final wouldn't go astray!
