Is the square ball not a rule anymore?

Last ten minutes going to be epic! This game has everything, Cork edging it with fitness now, Waterford lads tiring.

Waterford are the equivalent of Down last week.

Had their chance to win the game today, Threw it away, And will lose the reply comfortably.

A crowd of 9,000 according to the radio, 10,000 according to the TV, poor crowd!!!

Great game, edge of the seat stuff at the end, Waterford lads particularly the young lads were excellent. Tiredness derailed Waterford, much the better team for most of the game. Somehow feel Waterford have shot their bolt here, but a great start to the hurling championship.

I would say it's still 50/50, very little between the top 6 or 7 sides or so now!

That is what summer is all about. I would imagine Waterford will bring a bigger support the next day and I wouldn't agree at all that they have blown their chance today.

Only a cynic would comment only on the small crowd and not the wonderful entertainment. Roll on the summer. What a championship in store.

Arock,
This game had everything........Except supporters. Waterford and Cork fans should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. When I think of the debate about Sky TV and showing the games overseas, its sickening. All the moaning about people wont be able to see their team play etc. What a load of codswallop. The GAA need to be doing something about attendances and maybe do what they do here in the states when a game is not sold out they black out television coverage in the local markets. Maybe if the signal was blocked in Cork and Waterford if the attendance is less than say 80% full at throw in time.
Cork and Waterford supporters hang your heads in shame, it shows the lack of appreciation for the efforts of the players and the work they put in. 10000 at an intercounty senior championship game from what is supposed to be 2 hurling counties in a stadium that can hold nearly 4 times that amount. Neither county deserves to go any further, I feel sorry mostly for the players. Shame on you all.

Cork hurlers almost as badly supported as their footballers. Where were the Waterford fans?

Its the same in every county. The reality is that there are only a few thousand hard core supporters that will go to every game and then those who will only go when they think they are supporting a winning team.

How is that being a cynic!!

Great game, some great scores, and it was in the balance for the last 15mins, but we hear all about the Munster Championship,
this was a very disappointing crowd,
The men on both sides served up an excellent package for 72minutes and fair play to them,,, but in reality its still a poor crowd,

There was a full house in Newry last night and Derry today... i think most observers were expecting more at the game!!!

So disappointed with rte not one replay of the free on Nash at the end , was it a free why didn't they show us wether it was a foul or not? Even in the studio not one word about the free at the end not good enough from rte.

Did not go and do not feel one bit ashamed. Ultimately, it is not television, it is the structure of the championship. The winner of todays game must play Clare and Tipp/Limerick. If they were to lose one of those games, they would have two difficult games to reach the quarter finals. The losers of todays game will play some team from the Leinster qualifier group. With respect, they would win. The hurling championship is such that it almost pays to lose games in the provincial championship - hence crowds do not respond. Anyway, the crowd today was comparable with first round games for the last number of years now.

What a goal from Gleeson! Hope he keeps it up. Serious talent in that waterford panel but I agree that I think they've lost the surprise element and won't win the next day. We were terrible today and would get our ar**s handed to us if we played like that against clare. Very lucky to get that goal (although also denied a certain goal by O'Keefe as well).

This game will be remembered for that goal. Phenomenal. Cork defence made it all possible for opening up like the red sea. Same problems as plagued us last september. On a brighter note, cadogan was excellent.

Well if you'd added that in your first post I would not have made my comment. Yes its disappointing but this game was earmarked to be one sided affair. I would have thought that a positive comment regarding the game would have been more appropriate given the entertainment you say you got from it. If this had been on in Cork or Waterford there would have been 20 thousand at it but they don't have a home and away agreement probably because Walsh park could not take a crowd of that size. Is it fair then to expect so many fans to travel to first round games year in year out?

You have to admire this Cork team they don't know when there bet, another brilliant comeback from them today and I agree Cadogan is class. Interesting to see The Rock writing in today's Sunday World that he doesn't think it's possible to be a dual player at inter county level anymore
