Brolly's "Baywatch Babe" comment

Pat Spillane has ruined his reputation in Kerry in my opinion, he will never go down as a great, unlike Tomas O Se who is just a class act, Joe Brolly is the same, Derry people will remember the true greats like Henry Downey& Anthony Tohill, not a mouthpiece like Brolly.

I fail to see how people think rate are going to be suddenly now challenged when the fact is sky sports coverage is tv3 on pay per view its the same people employed
They didn't land much of a blow on rte over last few year's so are they suddenly going to become TV superstars overnight.
This attitude reminds me of Irish soccer supporters when the player plays here in the league of Ireland he's not good enough but as soon as he puts pen to paper with an English club the call up for the national squad comes

Agree , reminded of a story by Calvin Klein ,when he was a kid he sold oranges from a stall with his dad , he went one day to wholesale with father , they bought two large crates of oranges the same , when up loading onto stall his father split them and charged 5 for a dollar and 5 for 2 dollars , the young CK couldn't understand , his father told him there are two types of people those that want a bargain and those that like to feel superior and are only happy when they FEEL they are getting the best , a boxer king was born .
There are those who fall for the hype glitz and brainwashing , and will not admit its the same , by the way the one thing that will be different is the wrapping paper , no one does expensive wrapping paper like sky ,
Up Joe .

Spillane can spout junk 'til the cows come home, but to say that he will never go down as a Kerry great, laughable, he was as good a half forward as there ever was!

Isn't that one of the main reasons why the EPL is so annoyingly popular here? Could that also work for Gaelic games? We all agree that the GAA is almost devoid of any marketing nous, then half of us object when they try something different or progressive!

Youve missed the point completely , raised originally by Hill , its TV3 but in a fancy dress , now before the dress went on the PRODUCT was deemed weak , but the wrapping paper or dress suddenly makes it quality , might work for some not myself .

Last night, RTE called on Brolly to keep his controversial comments for 'The Sunday Game' studio.

"The views expressed by Joe Brolly are not those of RTE and he has been asked to desist from making such comments," a statement from the state broadcaster read.

Am I reading this right?

RTE don't share Joe's views and want to distance themselves from them, however if he's going to make controversial remarks in the future they want him to do so when he's on the Sunday Game?

The Sunday Game has tried to balance being an entertainment show and being a sports show.

For too long now it's failed at doing one of them well never mind both.

No i think your actually missing the point, its not TV3 in fancy dress. Your basing it on the premise that its the same people so it must be the same product! Its like taking a racing driver out of a Ford Fiesta and claiming its still the same driver so he wont go any faster in a Ferrari!

It an entirely different product, entirely different set up. If SKY end up providing the same people with the same tools as TV3 then yes it will be the same but chances are that wont be the case. For example Sky will be increasing the number of cameras for their games above the figure that RTE use. The height of the technology used by TV3 was Mat Cooper holding an ipad while Sky will use much more

The problem with the SKY deal is no matter how good it may be and it may be also rubbish it will never win some people over. It could be the best coverage and analysis known to man while RTE decide to put Pat Kenny on for analysis and people will still not go for Sky.

Ive no idea what it will be like but im willing to give it a go.

He should lose the RTE gig for such blatant sexism.

the point was that people were proclaiming that sky would have far better analysis and what have they done hired tv3 guys
a few fancy gadgets and cameras aint going to change the opinions of these guys that they all thaught were poor analysts
when they were on tv3
plus having only one analyst in astudio is what they have hired so far would be a backwards step

This isn't a sense of humour issue and personally I'm not particularly pc at all so I don't find his comments offensive but I have to disagree with the "gaa life would be dull without him" bit, it'd be a breath of fresh air without him.

'I get it that he's there to cause controversy, I generally like controversial figures because they're entertaining, I get it....but like I don't find certain comedians funny (even though that's their profession) I also don't find anything funny or entertaining about Brolly.

I find static on the tele more interesting, he's a Sinead O'Connor figure = has a desperate, insatiable need for attention and I just find it one long, never ending draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggg...........'

Try hitting the mute button then when he speaks!

Not sure how to put this politely but there are people working on RTE's GAA coverage who are better looking in my humble opinion.

And no I don't mean Marty.

A great character perhaps, but a great representation
of the county! Surely this was said in jest!! Or have
standards slipped in the Oak county?!
Anthony Tohill; now there was a great representation
of the oak county; strong, noble, and with an authoritative,
respected presence.
