Sky's coverage is a lot better than RTE in my opinion.

For patriotic reasons I watched the first half on RTE today but switched to SKY for the rest of the game, their coverage is much more enjoyable and they have great enthusiasm and there is no petty bickering.

TheGateKeeper loves Sky Sports 3 coverage because Peter Canavan is the only Tyrone player who makes it to the latter stages of the Championship these days

Former liverpool player Phil Thompson gave a tongue-in-cheek preview for the hurling on Newstalk today quite funny link

Afterwards he mentioned how hurling was getting on in the sky viewer ratings: "Hurling is one of the most watched things on television on Sky. Do you know what it's just going above at the moment? An England international match."

I live in London. I regret That I cannot watch the RTE coverage in my home any longer as SKY now has exclusive rights in the UK for games that are available to both rte and sky in Ireland. Given the choice I would pick RTE any day. SKY is fine if you are new to GAA.
it's also a shame that RTE only decided to announce their new GAAGO service this year (when again the only games that are available are the EXCLUSIVE RTE games). It makes you wonder why they didn't do this years ago when SKY wasn't involved.

430K tuned in for the hurling final in the UK! When you think the early football games were getting 7k this is some increase, I think Sky will be very happy with those figures!!!

AS a non hurler, I find the sky coverage very informative, especially the tactical breakdown by Jamesie O Connor. Better than Cyril Farrell and Ger Loughnane throwing out clichés all day.

That's pretty impressive. I would imagine some of that can be explained by the lack of premiership football last weekend, and that it was shown on Skysports 1 rather then 3 or 4. But it is still very encouraging all the same.

tirawleybaron but what would life be without a Cyril "Its in the melting pot" Farrell cliche?

Where would you be without the following:
"he's flying in training", "gone to the well", "he owes his county nothing", "tipp won't fear Killkenny", "under the radar", "waiting in the long grass" and of course "the shackles are off now"

The numbers are impressive but it has to be put in context and the problems that it may bring in the future , 1) the figures show that approx only 1 in 4 people who tuned in stayed on to watch the full game , 2) There were no other sports of any significance on at the same time to guage against it will be more of a acurate figure when the football final is on as there will be premiership games on but it does show that there is a market in the UK but I think sky will start to put pressure on the GAA to change times and days etc to try and get good enough viewing figures to make it financially viable for them , rugby league gets it biggest viewing figures on a monday night

The John Murray show on Radio 1 yesterday interviewed a councillor from southern England who had seen a hurling game for the first time on Sunday. It was interesting that he said just watching the game made him want to return for another visit to Ireland. Of course politicians in all countries will say what they think the listening public want to hear, but there is no doubt that the extra exposure of our sport and culture is portraying the country in a very positive light internationally.

you can say that about a variety of sports tinylandman..excellent figures and brilliant to see that exposure..obviously being on sky sports 1 helped greatly and the football final every year receives stiff competition in the form of a big premiership match

I'd say Sky have put RTE to "the pin of their collar".
