Sky Sports' GAA - I love it!!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Funnily enough in all the talk about UK viewing figures in national newspapers they never ever mention the channel that has already the Summer shown about 10 championship games in the UK. Might that be because it shows the "sky only place to watch GAA in the UK" line up for what it was???

The reasons the GAA gave for not having a 2.30 start were:
(1) We're an amateur organisation, the players involved in both teams have jobs, the supporters the same
(2) both rural counties, where many … with this good weather, farming work going on.
(3) We just felt that a 7pm start would have been the ideal, but the other game was on Sky, so we then thought 5pm in our heads

Thinking 5pm in their heads was useful - how about letting others know.

What about the players & fans of Carlow and Waterford, Tyrone and Louth, Cavan and Westmeath - do they not have jobs or any dependence on agriculture.

Also great that they trot out the 'Amateur' bit having signed the multi-million deal with Sky.

How many watched the replay of the Kilkenny and Galway game, there must be something wrong with my TV I couldn't get to see it on any channel.

what you on about it wasnt on tv because sky had the football match

So RTE weren't bothered then?

no rte were bothered
they had world cup and racing from curragh on already so told the leinster council they would like to show it at 2pm
when leinster council asked both countys they declined and wanted to play at 7pm
so 7pm it was and under the deal with sky
rte are not allowed show a match the same time so they were not allowed stream it online

Am I correct in saying that sky had exclusive ownership and broadcasting rights to the Kilkenny and Galway game until an out right winner was found therefore irrespective of anything else RTE could not televise the game until then, I'm led to believe that drawn games were an oversight in the negotiations.

Should other games televised by sky end in a draw, will RTE be allowed to televise the replay. ???????

Suoersub ??? What gave you that idea?? The drawn game was on RTE man. Honestly its this misinformation that spurned so many of these nonsense sky threads. To answer your question,: no that was not reason as sky didn't show first game, so they were not holding anyone to ransom.

"We were never that worried about the people in Ireland watching the game on Sky," that was liam o neill quote in the paper

So why didn't they just use Sky for broadcasting overseas and leave the Irish broadcasting as it was instead of penalising all of us without Sky?

If your sure about that, them may be you can tell me should there be any other replay to a game that sky has televised will RTE be allowed to televise that replay "Live"

Jaysus only 385k tuned in to watch the Leinster hurling final between Dublin and Kilkenny, that's a bit of a joke considering the population of Ireland and it was on free to air tele.

Jesus Htaem i don't think thats a bad figure. Considering a large number of people in Ireland have no interest in hurling, a large percentage of the audience would be on holiday (its that time of year)
Last year an audience of just above 600,000 would have had you in the top 20 for overall viewing figures for the year. They came in at just under 400,00. I think its a decent enough figure.
The figures for the game on sky though...now that is a worry.

I don't think so either......I was only jokin, I couldn't care less what the viewing figures were, I wasn't even watching the hurling meself.
