Sky Sports' GAA - I love it!!

I'd imagine new viewers won't think as much of football as they did of hurling keeper7 but again I'd expect few new viewers anyway, especially with the WC still on.

I wouldn't expect numbers to be big until the AI quarter finals onwards. WC will be over with not much else on.

Very impressed with the Sky Sports coverage again this evening, well worth my subscription.

Yeah they did well. Funny how Peter Canavan and Senan Connel can actually be enjoyable when not on TV3. Canavan a bit nervy on the sky pad but i'm sure he'll get the hang of it! Wyse and Carney keep it simple and professional. Good seeing punditry for GAA not turned in a circus.

Not sure if I'd get the subscription just for the GAA but then again you'd only be getting it for 3 months, but it's definitely the icing on the cake for me.

I have heard a rumour that one doesn't have to subscribe to Sky Sports to watch the games. While I certainly wouldn't condone depriving Sky of much needed revenue, and I am not stating that I have, or would partake in the probably illegal act of availing of these facilities, the games are freely available live on certain sites.

Sky's first taste of Ulster football next Saturday night. Can you imagine the reaction to that if it's anything like the last Saturday night game served up by Monaghan and Armagh!

Despite having sky I've often used such sites to watch their channels if away from home. But I would rather pay my subscription every month and get everything on my TV in lovely HD than watching a sh*t quality livestream!

Its not a rumour and you can do so with all channels....

It is nice to see pundits put the analysis of the game ahead of themselves and their ego's. A lot of people won't care for the pundits say anyway but its good to have a intelligent and positive review of the game. PC was replaying one of the points one of the Sligo lads score to show how good he was and in it he pointed out that it was made possible by a third man tackle that the ref missed. He didn't dwell on that issue but focused on the finish by the Sligo lad, the way he said it as well gave you the impression that, yea referees miss things big deal, move on. It seems to me a lot of people only watch rte so that they can pick on mistakes by the referees, I am glad sky haven't taken that line.

watched the Connacht semi last night on Sky and must say it is more professional than RTE. Peter Canavan has the hang of the smart telly and he does his homework before the game....he is outstanding....the cynical and negative comments from Brolly in recent times are a sharp contrast. Lester, Spillane and O Rourke are still great lads but they have competition from the Sky team which is just great.

Yeah was thinking that myself, they must be kicking themselves. But I'm glad RTE had it. Nearly all the trends for the afternoon on Twitter were related to the match and if it was on sky I'd say that wouldn't have been so. I'm all for sky getting the 8 or 9 exclusive games and qualifiers RTE wouldn't show anyway because they will only show 1 per weekend.

So if they want to renew their deal and get more matches I think the extra ones they get will have to be fixtures that weren't televised at all this year, and shared broadcasting in Ireland with RTE.

Got a glimpse of the sky broadcast of the hurling match last week (on the internet).Camerawork was awful. They only seem to have only two cameras. Nothing new or fresh about the cliches used by the commentator or the analysts. RTE and TG4 are superior in all respects.

Yeah it's very bland, certainly not worth forking out for, commentary as bad as ever so no improvement there!

Don't see any reason why if game had been on Sky that most of the top trends on Twitter wouldn't have related to the game Think Sky should if they want it get extra games and not just games that weren't televised this year

We cannot lose sight of the fact that RTE serves the D4 demographic of this world first. Here is a record (courtesy of @rtewatch Twitter account) of RTE reporting of GAA sports and Rugby for the past week on the Six One news Sat 16th Tries from the matches NZ v England and Wales v South Africa what that has to do with Ireland is beyond me.
Mon14th No GAA but of course there was a report on the Rugby panel for the emerging nations match v Uruguay
Tuesday No rugby but GAA consisted of the launch of the Camogie Championship.
Wednesday No Rugby the GAA report was on dual players with a hint of player overuse. Still no mention of weekend matches.
Thursday No Rugby but no GAA either
Friday18th Report on Rugby U21 win by England plus Ireland loss to New Zealand. No mention of any of the weekend GAA matches some of which were on the following day.
Remember also that RTE Sports News were very quick to highlight the Armagh Cavan incident the previous week showing it on the Sports section of the News on 4 separate days.
This gives a lie to the notion that RTE focuses on rugby for Feb and March and focuses on GAA during the summer. This is the middle of June when the maximum of counties are involved in Hurling and Gaelic Football. It also shows RTE's eagerness in highlighting the negative side of GAA.
For that reason the GAA needs the SKY outlet to counter the negative RTE mind set and I for one hope the get more matches next year.

You wont get mention of weekend matches on a Tuesday. What can they report on exactly?
The news reporters clearly feel the internationals of Wales, England are relevant as do the directors and producers,
So 3 days with no rugby..
RTE doesn't serve d4 demographic. Only those with paranoid delusions think that.
The u20(not 21) games covered were world cup semi finals and the equivalent of the under 21 all Irelands in many ways.
RTE focuses on all sports the whole time. They cover whats relevant when relevant and are not eager to highlight negativity of GAA. If they were so negative then why don't GAA ensure RTE gets way less coverage than it does. Oh wait the GAA staff know that their treatment is fine.
