OK ,lets put this into prospective ,there was a survey in yesterdays Independent which showed what Irish sports fans watched over a weekend on TV , it was done on the weekend of the English grand national ,English Grand National , Munster V Toulouse , West Ham V Liverpool and Leinster V Toulon all came before Dublin V Tyrone (and this was free to air) ,The reason Sky are putting on GAA is to fill a poor summer schedule and they will not be putting in huge resources into it as most British viewers will have no interest in watching it .Next season they have the pro 12 and they will put alot of resources into that because it has the potential to get a big viwership in the UK .

Wow tinrylandman man, on a weekend of high profile, vitally important rugby, soccer and horse racing events, a relatively pointless GAA match had less viewers? What a profound statistic. Perspective indeed.

So it looks like Sky sports have just taken the TV3 pundits (Canavan, English and O'Connor) ....

That survey shows nothing. Repeat it on bank holiday August and GAA comes out top.

"Presenters - Coverage will be fronted by Sky Sports presenters Rachel Wyse of Sky Sports News and Brian Carney, presenter on Sky Sports rugby league coverage

Commentators - Dave McIntyre and Mike Finnerty will commentate on both hurling and football

Hurling - Lead analyst Jamesie O'Connor will be joined by co-commentator Nicky English, both former Hurlers of the Year and All-Ireland winners.

Football - Lead analyst and 1995 Footballer of the Year Peter Canavan will be joined by co-commentator and 1985 All-Star Paul Earley."

Nothing wrong with that!

So Sky's GAA coverage is essentially going to be a more expensive version of TV3's?

Revolutionary!

So after all the hype and talk of sky sports going to do wonders with the analysis what do we have a slim reduced version of tv3 . And the same people who winged and slated tv3 analysis are turning around and Telling us its a great lineup . Some people are just so obsessed and blinded with large companies they cannot see the reality

I didn't have a problem with TV3s lineup but then again I couldn't see it with living in the north!

The doomsayers were predicting fellas with English accents mispronouncing names/teams/venues etc. Obviously that's not going to happen. As for the TV3 comparison, noone actually criticised the analysts, just the cheap feel to the overall coverage.

Ah, some of the famous over reacted match reporting from sky. The game yesterday was muck, they're going to need a lot of over reaction for their first game as well, a 30 point hammering in a half empty Nowlan Park without King Henry. That's when we'll see what Sky are really made of.
In fairness I was pretty impressed with Tomas O'Se,and RTE, yesterday (nearly made up for the two boys next to him). If i'm not mistaken he was the only one who said Down could come back (O'Rourke said 'the game is over' at half time), probably knows more about football than the other two combined. RTE are upping their game.

Come on lads admit he said we were going to have great improved analysis but how can we now have tv3 coverage on pay per view and to make it worse they have less analyst's one guy in the studio presenting and one analyst that's a backwards step as you only get one person's opinion on anything

I know I probably come across as a big fan of Sky but I'm not. It bugs the hell out of me sometimes when you go into a pub or service station & they have Sky News or Sky Sports News on constantly in the background. Makes you wonder what country we're actually living in! However, I can see the potential positives for our games if this Sky "experiment" works out so for me it has to be worth the risk. I believe that Gaelic games are every bit as entertaining as soccer or rugby or any other "world" game so lets test the waters & see what comes back with some decent exposure.

Irish people who constantly look to Britain for sport, media & entertainment might yet gain a new-found regard for OUR games if they see people in Britain & beyond actually "digging" GAA.

RTE need a clear out
Brolly / O'Rourke... they are just interested in point scoring and hacking at each other comments
RTE's production is tired, it needs refreshing...

+1
Though O'se was very good and I do like Whelean & Tohill too. I think we need to get rid of Brolly, spillane and O'Rourke. They argue with each other more then actually discussing the game being shown. They were all good commentators but they have been there too long now.

I like the way Jimbo just says it how it is. He predicted the good TV3 analysts will move to sky and nothing wrong with that.

He also clearly see's RTE's shortcomings too. Hill16no1man would you not wait till the lads have actually analyzed a mmatch before claiming it TV3 standard. Their production value was archaic and they made no effort to improve it.

As an London exile, I cant wait to see Skys coverage! I already have sky and used to have premier sports for £10 a month extra to watch the GAA, but had to cancel due to the poor set up!

Anyone know what is the first fixture on sky?

macattack,

I think it is Kilkenny v Offaly in the Leinster Hurling Championship on the 7/8th of June if I am not mistaken?

Anyone else find the sky punchline a little strange? 'See GAA differently'. Assuming most of their viewership cant see it as it is, does that mean they 'see' it as something not worth watching at present? Or have they unintentionally inferred this while trying to have a cut at rte coverage? Either way, not a great one liner in my opinion...
