Derry v Donegal

Great to see Donegal redeploying the blanket, kind of makes me yearn for the old days of 03. I now understand why East Germans also yearn to be reunited with mother Russia. Come on Donegal put derry back in their box for 2014.

McQuillan's sense of entitlement to completely ignore the rulebook never ceases to amaze...

that was a black card!

The player himself knew it was. Very lucky to stay on the park. Been some poor shooting in the first 20 minutes.

I was under the impression that this was precisely the type of foul the black card was introduced for. Poor decision by the referee

Apart from that, its a good tight match so far. Intriguing stuff. On a side note, someone need to tell Daragh Moloney how to pronounce Odhran McNiallis's name

I didn't think it was a clear black card. It wasn't a blatant drag down and the attacker could have stayed on his feet. It was a close call that could have been given but I wouldnt blame Joe for it.

only one team playing like they want to win it the other team has some great brick layers in their side.

Both defensive and terrible in front of goal, hope the 2nd half is better!

Derry should just knock it about at the back for the rest of the game. Donegal aren't going to push out anyway.

Apparently McHugh thinks that's because of the black card. If that's the case McGuinness very clairvoyant to prepare for the black card three years ago.

If Donegal has their shooting boots with them they'd be well ahead.

Thompson(0-1), Murphy (0-2), McBrearty (1-3) have all had some very bad misses.

If they sharpen up in the next half they'll win by a few points I think.

As well as the tactics being dire, the standard of football is awful as well. McBreartys missed goal, Thompsons missed point, Sean Leo's point effort, the last Derry attack where they didn't even go down and pick up the ball are all examples of an absence of basic football skills. Lets hope one of the managers is brave enough to risk leaving 3 forwards in the oppositions half in the next 35 minutes. The worst thing is that some of these lads are among the country's best footballers, they are just not in anyways sharp because of the emphasis of their managers on physique it would seem.

I expected the defensive setups but the wastefulness especially from Donegal is awful. So many simple shots being dragged wide or short.

I'm still waiting for McBrearty to live up to the hype. The 18 year old looks very good though.

Terrible play by the Holly to soccer sidefoot pass when he should have picked up the ball and drove on for goal.

Two teams looking like they are going nowhere.

Could be a case of just telling Dublin to hold onto Sam as the competition is looking like it is going to be even weaker than it was last year.

It is a pity as a lot is being made of how good Dublin are right now but the truth will never be known if there is no standard of competition - instead they will be viewed as the only team of a decent standard about at this point in time.

Oh for the days of the first decade of the century and a group of strong challengers.

Fantastic goal, beautiful football all round. This should spark things a bit.

Now that's much better, all we need is Derry to step up and we have a game!

Surely 2nd half will be better? Shocking 1st half. Great goal for Donegal, fantastic point by Murphy, at last Donegal realuse you have to score to win a match.

5 mins into the 2nd half and it's pretty much all over.

Donegal starting to take their chances.

And another sublime point from Murphy, Derry will need a miracle.
