Not so ben1977 as I believe Derrys tactics failed them before they threw in the towel. Overall they are going well though. I just thought that Donegal looked a bit jaded - going by what we've seen from them before, they were also playing one of their biggest rivals for Ulster honours so should have been up for the fight. Surely you could see that yourself!

Donegal fans very confident it seems......

Derry team to be announced tonight. Would expect

1. Mallon
2. Duffy
3. McKaigue
4. McBride
5. Sean Leo
6. O'Kane
7. Johnson
8. Bradley
9. Doc
10. McFaul
11. Lynch
12. Lynn
13. Herron
14. McGuckian
15. O'Boyle

Only real doubts there would be maybe McKinless for Duffy, and Emmet Bradley for Heron. Strong looking bench also with the likes of Bell, Kielt (x2), Devlin,Holly all available to come on if needed.

Don't know where you get that from james, It's Derry men who are forecasting reversing the scoreline of 2012 & Dublin men forecasting 10 point wins for Derry.

There isn't a Donegal man alive who wouldn't grab a one point win and run home with it.

Sunday will show whether Derry have what it takes to win Ulster. Do they have the leader/s who will stand up and be counted when the going gets tough? Tyrone had Sean Cavanagh last weekend. I still think Donegal's experience will shine through and they will win by a few points. I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

I'd be more on the hopeful than confident bus. The truth is nobody knows how Donegal are going to perform on Sunday. We may perform well and get beat, or perform well and win or perform poorly in which case we will certainly get beat. Our form through the league was up and down. We tried out a kick outs option in the first 15 minutes against Meath that almost cost us all the points, we played well against Laois and Monaghan, poorly against Down and in the league final and for only half of the Louth game. It's hard to know if the focus was there but it should be on Sunday. Derry are a fine team and I almost felt sorry for them in Ballybofey in 2012 but Mc Ivor has then firing again and they won't be easy beat.

The losses to Monaghan and Mayo last year were hard to take as we lay down, unable to fight. I'm hoping for a good performance on Sunday and then even if we are beat it will mean it was by a better performing team but if we win then who knows where the season could go!!

Floops, I certainly agree with you regarding us looking jaded, no doubt about that we did, this could be for two reason, maybe they are just burnt out from 3 years of rigorous work underJMG, or it could be that they were just back from a training camp where they trained 3 times a day, the training they done when they returned wasn't much easier by all accounts, my feelings are it is the latter, there's a young lad from my own club n the panel who is as fit as you could ever be, playing for the club after that camp,he was dead on his feet, donegal wanted to win the league final no doubt about that but the facts are that they never once discussed Monaghan until they arrived in Dublin the day before the league final, one date on this teams mind from jan 2014 and that is this Sunday 25th May,maybe im clutching at straws here but I feel the conversation about Donegal will be very different next week than it is this week.

Who knows what JMcG has in mind for Sunday but the Donegal team might look like this
1. Durkan
2. McGrath
3. McGee
4. McGee
5. Thompson
6. Lacey
7. Toye
8. Gallagher
9. McElhinney
10. McHugh
11. McNiallis
12. McBrearty
13. O'Connor
14. Murphy
15. McFadden
If it looks anything like this the it will mean a new style of play from Donegal with the half forwards being much more of an attacking source

This is a hard game to call.. Neil McGee made a point in a local newspaper that under McIver in 2007 Donegal were going full steam very early in the season, having won the Div 1 title, but when it came to crunch time in Ulster there were no more 'gears' left.. It's going to be interesting to see if Derry can up it again for Ulster having had a very good league campaign. I'm sure McIver will have learnt from the past and will be well prepared for whatever McGuiness has in store! Heres hoping its a good close game!

Muck, Toye at no7 and no Frank McGlynn

Fair enough ben1977. Over training before a league final is certainly an oddity, as is not discussing the next game but I suppose we're talking about JMcG here... anyway best of luck against Derry.

Good man ben!!!

That should be McGlynn in the half back line instead of Toye.

That's more like it, id say Your very close there with that team, not sure if he will risk both gallagher and Mc Grath thou, he may very well go for paddy, and leave big Neil until half time or so, if this happens you could see Leo Mc Loone in and around the middle as I have no doubt he will start somewhere....

all this talk about playing badly this year and not being near the form shown in 2012 is nonsense. people seem to forget donegal were hammered by kerry in the league in 2012, and only barely avoided relegation on the last day of the league against armagh with a late score. jmg does not like his team playing with championship intensity in the league so normally plays man on man in the league while lining his team out for championship in training throughout the year, but rarely using these tactics in the league.

You may well be right about McLoone but I don't know. He has never convinced me & we will need possession in the middle of the field.

Muck, I agree with you re Mc Loone, but Jim is a fan that's why I think he will on the field, I think his problem his is versatility in that you don't where to play him, a good man to have in the squad but for the player himself I think he will never fulfil his full potential for this reason.....

Mc Loone doesn't convince me either. Against Down in Newry he had a nightmare at No.6 and only when Mc Glynn swithced there in the second half did we make any improvements. Jim wants to play Mc Loone though so no doubt a position will be found for him somewhere. If he was to drop Mc Loone though I'd say this could be his line up.

1.Durkan
2.F Mc Glynn
3.N Mc Gee
4.E Mc Gee
5.A Thompson
6 K Lacey
7 D Walsh
8 M Mc Elhinney
9 C Toye
10 R Mc Hugh
11 P Mc Brearty
12 O Mc Nialis
13 C Mc Fadden
14 M Murphy
15 D O' Connor

The golden rule is that you never start a player if there is any question over fitness. The first 15 minutes of this game is crucial as Derry will want to get ahead and make Donegal come out of the defensive mode. I can see both Gallagher and Mc Grath coming on but just can't see MC Guinness risking them if there is any doubt on full fitness. Mc Grath might be body fit but has to be rusty in match fitness.

Mc Glynn would be a loss at corner back but we need Lacey to pick up Lynch so he would have to revert to corner back.

Now we don't want to concede an early goal or fall too far behind, but if it's around 1point each after 20/25 minutes I think we can then win the game. Who knows, Donegal might play out of their skins and won easily. But I would not like to see us fall too far behind in the early stages

I don't see him playing Ryan McHugh in corner forward. He is more a playmaker/linkman & I could see him filling the role his brother had.
For what it's worth I think Ryan is a better player.
