Correct me if I'm wrong but Derry have never been well supported. Not in recent times anyway.

Derry have never been well supported.

But not sure about these rumours.I know for a fact that my club didn't even get half of the seated tickets they wanted.

Derry support is incredibly fickle, only turn up if there is a chance of glory. If we had came close to Dublin there would be twice the number looking to go. Its the ones who were walking out of Croke Park with 15 mins to go that won't be there come Sunday.

Have heard that a lot of Donegal clubs are returning tickets.
Seems to me that most people bought online in case their club didn't have enough tickets.

Your right jack Derry wouldn't be one of the better supported teams in ulster. A lot of their gaa clubs are on the opposite end of the county and they don't like the fact the county plays in the city (or so I'm told by Derry gaa people living in the city) a lot of Derry gaa people would prefer if games where played in owenbeg but don't think it would have the capacity of a game like this. Think celtic parks capacity for Sunday is around the 17000 mark

I remember going up to Clones a good few years back to watch Dublin play Derry in a qualifier game and being a little surprised at the lack of Derry support.Lucky if there was even 2,000 fans cheering them on.

Yes, you're right. 2000 though would be way over what there was.

Same with Armagh in 07 and Monaghan in 11 both in Clones, 200 or so at the most at each and and we won both games.

It is no coincidence though that we had lost the previous games to all three of these examples. Derry fans don't turn up after a loss.

The Celtic Park thing is nothing more than an excuse. There is a sign outside Owenbeg that tells you its only 17 miles to Derry!!!

Massive blow to us if we are missing both big Neil and Kavanagh at midfield. McElhinney is well capable of filling in. Had some great league games and he'll need to find that form again for Sunday. I'd expect Toye to partner him with Leo McLoone moving up to half forward. Any word on Paddy McGrath whether he is fit to start or not?

squareball_1988,
I got notification yesterday from the season ticket crowd. It was an email that had a link to a 'print your own ticket' thing. It did state that season tickets themselves would not be scanned at the turnstiles - you need the print-off. If you didn't get the email, I'm sure you'll find it on the season ticket website.

Really looking forward to this one; before the league
final I would have fancied Derry for this, but now...
However the massive withdrawals(no fallout, nothing to
see here! ;)) of ass.manager Rory Gallagher and
'fulcrum of the team' Mark Mc hugh are going to be
difficult will be tough on Donegal.
Derry to win in a tight affair!

Derry will win this won by 5+ points, Donegal will be running back to the hills in fright, with all due respect their couple of year dominance of Ulster football is over

4HK, good man, aT least we have had 1 success recently, you obviously don't include Ulster championships as success which is surprising considering its 21 years since yous won one, I look forward to your posts next week whenever your leaving Celtic Park with your tail between your legs...... Lets see ave Derry got the Balls for it, I doubt it somehow

Derry are rightly favourites, however I'm still a bit wary at how people are writing Donegal completely off. This is dangerous, making them complete Underdogs.

When this Donegal team are focused on any opposition and have sufficient time to prepare, they have shown repeatedly that they are a most formidable opponent. Many are happy to write Donegal off, as their rise under McGuinness clearly ruffled feathers of the more established and traditional powers. Naturally many of these supporters and reporters are happy to proclaim their demise...............perhaps a little prematurely.

An understrength Donegal beat Tyrone last season by 6 points in a powerful display, All Ireland favourites Mayo later beat Tyrone by 6 points in the AI SF.
While Mayo did tank Donegal in the AI QF, It is worth noting that Donegal were playing their 3rd week in a row after losing the Ulster final, and were clearly not at full strength or full fitness. Mayo on the other hand were at full strength, full fitness and had studied Donegal in great detail from the previous September's All Ireland loss.

Derry have had a good National League run, but It would be dangerous to think for a moment that this is a weakened Donegal side. The bulk of their panel is Under 25 years of age, most of whom have already tasted Ulster and All Ireland glory.
They have already demonstrated they can perform in high pressure matches, when everything is at stake.

This will be a major battle, make no mistake about it. Jim McGuinness and his troops are wounded, and have quietly gone about their business all winter and spring. McIver can not take anything for granted going into this, Donegal will play high Intensity football and will probably perform much better than they showed against Monaghan.

Yes I do count Ulster championship as a success, I'm just saying that Donegals dominance in Ulster is over in my opinion.

It has been 16 years since the last Ulster win, 1998, I predict 2014 will be the next.

Foolish to write off Donegal in light of the fact that they are playing Derry who are a notoriously inconsistent championship team. Nonetheless, Derry have had the look of a team going places in this years league, and are finally showing a bit of consistency. There seems to be good unity among the panel. I think Derry will win this one with a few points to spare. Donegal just haven't the strength in depth to sustain a challenge for Ulster or Sam after 2012. This will be Jim's last year in charge I'd imagine. Can't be easy juggling this with his job in Glasgow surely?

I see the Mystic Megs are out in force today. The fact of the matter is that none of us has a clue what is going to happen on Sunday.

I can see a tight hard fought game that will go down to the wire with hopefully Donegal getting there by a point.

For that to happen we need a big step up in performance & Neil Gallagher in the middle of the field. Without either & I fear it's the back door for us.

Muckross, I agree, I'm not saying I'm in the know regarding the donegal camp, but. I did hear from a very reliable source that big Neil will not make it, there only hopes hat they can get him on the field for the last 20/25 mins is the most realistic goal, tough game in store but just have a wee feeling we come out on top
