Viewing GAA matches in the USA

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is extremely irritating. I went online over the weekend to see what the price for the championship is, and then get this message that its not available online anymore for households. I know there are streams, but they're very unreliable, particularly at the business end of the championship

Now I'm left with the option of finding a pub first thing in the morning just so I can watch a game, which will be highly unlikely apart from Donegal matches. Have not yet seen an explanation why. Is it because its $20 per head if the game is in a pub rather than an all-in household package for the summer? Something stinks to the high heaven here. I'll be mailing the GAA for an explanation, will let you know if and how they respond

All you need to do is get the browser addon 'Mediahint' for either Chrome or Firefox and you can watch the RTE player, BBC Iplayer, etc. anywhere in the world

I agree with mike03 100%. what you say is completely true and I have said it on here lots of times but was shot down by people .
The viewers in the Uk had/have already access to all the games in their own homes and online for 10 a month + an extra 2 for on an online player. The people are quite happy with a re-broadcast of what RTE/TV3/Setanta/TG4 were showing, why wouldn't they be. the nonsense spouted on here about Premier sports showing ads for other programmes during breaks is just that..nonsence. of course they are entitled to show what ads they want. during the all-ireland championship they DO show the half-time discussion from the Studio panels .
So now GAA are saying we have done this deal for the diaspora. (they haven't mentioned new audiences. i.e. british people who up to this had no interest in GAA. No doubt there will be a few qurious viewers who already have sky sports and will come across the GAA whilst flicking through the channels, If they like it they may stick with it,but only as some kind of novelty, like Aussie rules,Kabaddi etc etc. The people who want to watch GAA will be those who either go to the pub to watch it anyway or those who have alreday signed up to premier sports. However the difference this season is that those loyal GAA fans will most probably now only see 75% of matches due to the SKY deal.

My understanding is the "GAAGO" thing is actually going to be launched on Wednesday. I think it is based on RTEDIGITAL TV signal which would be much more reliable than anything Premium Sports have ever been able to supply. Wednesday does not give them much time to sell it with the champo beginning for real this weekend. If it is Wednesday I say better late than never....I can't wait.

Munkick, Any idea of the cost? Will there only be one full package or can people buy football or hurling? It's crazy that the championship has already started and this is still so up in the air!!

The new GAAGO app will be available to all fans of our national sports outside the island of Ireland.

All 45 televised games from the 2014 All Ireland Senior Football and Hurling Championships, as broadcast by RTÉ and Sky, will be available to watch this season. A worldwide GAAGO 'Season Pass' (excluding the Island of Ireland and Great Britain) is priced at €110.

For Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), 25 games broadcast by RTÉ will be available on GAAGO, but games broadcast by Sky will only be available through Sky. The GAAGO 'GB Pass' for Great Britain is priced at €60

Those prices must be reasonable or surely there'd be an outcry of rebellion on here???

The pricing is fine if the quality is good.

I actually watched the final day of the premiership on Sky's NOW TV internet service and it failed on the day. RTE better be prepared for the users buying the individual match downloads and possibly overloading the service as we get to the business end and the big days. Otherwise I think it's a fantastic idea. Provincial rugby or domestic soccer supporters would kill for a similar service I'd imagine. Price is definitely reasonable in comparison to other sports. It gives everyone a chance all over the world to watch the games. My wife is from mainland Europe and if I ever living there then I would be delighted to have this available to me. Well done to all involved.

Have to say 110 euro sounds good. I thought it would be around the 200 - 250 mark. I see its not starting until mid-june and all games before that are free on the rte player if im not mistaken.
Rarely I say it but good job lads.

So, I'm still a little confused about one aspect. This service is going to be providing access, via RTE's player, to all televised GAA games to those outside Ireland or Britain, which includes the 14 games that are exclusive to Sky in Ireland. When it comes to those 14 games, who's broadcast is going to be streamed? Are RTE going to broadcast those 14 games as a live stream only, and just have them available in the Web player for those outside Ireland? When I asked this before, someone said that they'd be doing a live stream of Sky's broadcast, but that doesn't sound likely.

There are loads of sites for streaming online lads, and you don't have to pay anything for them.

Sky Sports website has it under the more+along with some pretty big global sports - not sure what you were expecting them to do on it. I don't expect them to put it ahead of the world cup or the big mainstream sports however they will do a lot more than just show the games as its in their interest to do it. You seem to know already what they will do, it would be interesting to know how you would know that given this is the first time ever that this has been tried and Sky's record with sports development is rather good.
Likewise it seems as if you know and in fairness you wouldn't be alone in Ireland in thinking that you know what is needed for the development of the game overseas. I would actually go as far to say that most members in Ireland don't really care about whats going on overseas.

While im not 100% sure on this id imagine the coverage shown on the RTE player will be covered by the RTE pundits and commentators. They will already be set up at the games in order to get coverage for the Sunday game highlight programme. Similar to last year when TV3 had the games id say.

GAA is currently on the Sky sports website with Tennis, NFL and Snooker as well as Netball and Speedway. I'd say that since sky havnt aired a single game yet that we are doing alright to have that much.
To be honest the leinster hurling championship has been on for the past 3 weekends and there has been little or no coverage of these games on our national broadcaster. Oh and btw London are involved in that competition. The sooner change happens the better.

GAAGO is starting with Tyrone v Down. They should broadcast Roscommon v Leitrim instead.
