Dubs or Derry?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Snuf, Dubs are shortest price favourites to win a league final since Derry beat Kerry in 2008!

Just saying :-)

I can see a close game. Dubs will be better than they were in Derry but this Derry team is serious outfit. Interesting article in Examiner today referring back to last Dubs/Derry league final in 1976. Was at that. Derry had very good team then. Always remember Gerry McIlhinney who had long hair and wore headband. Dubs were lucky to beat them in '75 AI semi final and in league final. Amazing thng is I don't think Derry won an Ulster after that???

The bookies might have them favourites but the heart of every GAA fan in the country knows different!

Dublin won't be beaten again this year I don't think. Unless either of the Jim's or Mickey Harte hatch a cunning plan...

Even while we speak Mickey Harte is somewhere in deepest Tyrone, sitting, brooding, staring into a dying coal fire as he plans...
While in Tir Conaill JMcG has the slide rule, compass & a copy of Machiavelli's "The Prince" open at the chapter that deals with parking buses.

James Joyce, for a Dublin Literary Great, your recent posts have been very bitter towards your native city :)

Derry have momentum and the forwards to hurt Dublin. Derry by 3.

Dublin have shown some decent form at times this season but it has to be Derry - possibly by as little as 2.

I can see Derry giving Dublin all they want for about an hour. Then Gavin will empty the bench and the Dubs will win in it by 6 points or more pulling up.

It nearly worked for them the last time. If I was Dublin fan I would be most concerned that somebody might put enough pressure on the kick out strategy to break it. Mayo might well be the most willing to take a gamble in this regard.

During Mayo Dublin this year I spent the first 20 minutes wondering why Ciaran Killkenny wasn't coming all the way back to give Cluxton an easy option. Think he's a loss in that sense, he was always an extra option when he came deep.

Still think Dublin have the best panel around though.

No disrespect to Derry but I don't think any team will get within 7 points of Dublin for the rest of the year, they are just too strong , the way they went to town on cork was just scary. I'm afraid my own team is about 5 years away from making an impact.

Dublin to pull away in 2nd half and win easing up by 7 or 8 points. Then on to the serious business and the retention of SAM.

KingdomBoy1 catch yourself on - Dublin come up against the wrong team and they will be beaten - I would not fancy their chances against the like of Donegal and I think Derry have a very good chance on Sunday - they will certainly be closer than 7 points.

Listening to folk talking about Dublin you would think they were 10 ft tall and breath fire from their behinds - seriously need to get a grip - they are good but there are other good teams out there too - you have to remember when winning the All Ireland last year they managed to avoid Ulster teams.

roundball, in fact it did work, and dublin were struggling when that was taken from them. If people think mickey harte and the lads wont have something similar prepared - and ramped up about 4 notches, then they have another thing coming. I know there was a bit of outcry about mcloughlin, but in hindsight, he didnt actually do a whole lot, and I expect tyrone/donegal and maybe even derry at the weekend, to be a fair bit more forward about it. It is strange actually, the dublin kickout this year isnt unlike the mayo midfield last year, lauded in many quarters, a lot written about it, some stunning performances etc etc. Then we seen the mayo midfield attacked last year and it worked, I have a feeling the same could apply this year re the dublin kickout. Taking away that core strength of a team's make up is a real hammer blow and very difficult to come back from. That is the thing with unorthadox kickout routines, if they can be countered the ball is in a place you dont want it to be in with maybe guys gone ahead of the ball etc. Take away cluxton's accuracy and it becomes a dangerous game.
