Is there anything good at all about the GAA

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Yeah we all hate the administrators, the officialdom and those who make the big decisions.

And we all hate the bankers, the maple ten, the politicians and the cuts.

But I don't see anyone out on the streets about it and I definitely don't see anyone standing up in any committee meetings trying to put forward any motions about Liam O'Neill and Paraic Duffy.

I've umpired plenty of matches where people on here have given out about the officiating but there's not that many who are giving up their weekends or evenings to do it better.

Yeah we're all great lads on the internet, Laochra Gael each and everyone one with a keyboard in front of us. We all love the GAA but we love whinging more. That's what's so great about the GAA, right?

GAA and everything it contains are only operating at 60% in my opinion. So much can be changed and improved but yet we're still doing great. Just wish tradition would be put to one side and the games allowed to progress.

The games are fantastic, the games are great despite the best efforts of those trying to run the sports. Moan and whinge away, what welse would we be doing.

Yeah they seem fantastic when your minor, u21s and seniors are always winning and in no danger of not dominating their province. So much wrong with the GAA that can change but sadly people focus their complaints on the good things such as the sky deal.

I honestly think the problem is simple = we're in a slow month, between mid April and mid May there aren't too many inter county teams in action so naturally Irish people decide to engage in their favourite pastimes = complain, resist change and most importantly = don't act on any threats made whatsoever.

Come the last week of May and early June the Gaa will be the best thing since sliced bread and all will be forgotten....well until Sky broadcasts their first game that is. Then we'll have another wave of "Maurice Davin will be turning in his grave", "I'm tearing up my membership", "what about aul Jim up the road who still only has the rabbit ears" etc etc etc but again it will blow over by mid July and all will be well again.

......well until the Meath beat the Dubs in the Leinster final with a last minute knocked on try then it will be "those Meath s***bags", "cheats", "replay replay replay" but again all will be well by bank holiday August...........UNTIL Joe McQuillan gets to referee another Dublin AI final match, then it will be "Joe's after handing Dublin another AI", "that was never a free in at the end", "he blew the whistle too early", "the Gaa always favours the Dubs" etc etc etc

You gotta love Gaa, the summer wouldn't be the same without it :-

Fantastic :)

Best games in the world imo. Some can rightly criticise because you are free to do so and I'm all for that. The modern GAA is more tolerant and progressive now that other organisations and/or churches in the country. All posters here are the GAA, could you find a nicer bunch of sports fanatics?

The question is is there anything at all good about the GAA and I'd have to say not any more , the sky deal puts a lot of things in to perspective , now ye can say I'm paronoid and this is not a dig at Dublin or Dublin fans but I got to say this, the sky deal must be in the pipe line for the last 3 years, that would explain why the Dublin county board were given €5,000,000 to develope hurling and football and it would explain how Dublin were given the dodgy all Ireland of 2011 and have been given some seriously dodgy results at different levels since , you see Dublin have most of the population and their people have the money to pay for sky, a lot of the country folk don't so we are left by the way side as the Americans might say, collateral dammage, I mean Dublin even have there own personal all Ireland final refferee. It's all clear now. Now I know I'm gona get in trouble with the Dublin fans for this and I'm sorry if I offend any of ye except jimbo but that's the way things look to me and I don't think I'm the only one who thinks like this. The GAA need a strong Dublin for financial reasons

I'm not sure I'd go that far with the conspiracy theories nut it is clear that the people in power greatly favor Dublin.

The sports are the greatest in the world without a shadow if a doubt. But this progressive nonsense ?? Soccer peaked in the 80s. Now it is totally ruined due to it's horrible progress. I think tradition is what makes the gaa so special no.matter how hard they try to wreck it. It's role in our history and independence should never be forgotten. No professionalism and no free flowing transfers should ever be entertained. Continue to nurture grass roots in.our smallest communities and if anything we should try to regress to the 90s

I normally have a lot of time for your posts , but trust me Andy Kettle was not on the grassy knowl , jim gavin does not ride Shergar round the fields of Clondalkin in his spare time , I will concede we have gotten the better side of marginal 50/50 calls more times than not recently , but when we didnt get those calls and Im long in the tooth to remember refs like Seamus Aldridge who wouldn't give us the time of day , I didn't believe there was a campaign against us . As All Ireland champions we are being dissected top to bottom , admin , to structures , games, business and corporate dealings , and people are reading what they want , some of the main players doing the business were being thought their trade 10 years ago in development squads when we were winning nothing , does the conspiracy start in the maternity hospitals of Dublin going back how far ? Dublin winning certainly doesn't hurt the coffers and therefore the association , but is that our fault ?
