This is pure Ulster football. What time is the rugby starting at lads?

Very good first half, Monaghan's shooting is impressive. I imagine there will be goal chances in the second half as players start to tire.

Umpire to the right of durkin having a nightmare, gives 45 when it was clearly wide ball, then signals a clear point wide and then gives hughes a point when it looked to go wide off the post. Essentially 2 points to monaghan that should not have been. But credit to monaghan better team and kicked some great long range scores. Donegal in big trouble.

Darren Hughes is having a great game, he's been immense for Monaghan over the last couple of years and I'd consider him to be the best all round footballer in Ireland.

If this is how football is gone I dont want to be a part of it..

I have never witnessed so much dives and play acting. Is it a league final or oscar that these guys are playing for.

Well done to Monaghan, I felt they might have blown it with the penalty. But it woke them up and they ran out clear deserved winners. Not a great game to watch, but I don't think that will bother Monaghan too much.

Monaghan worth keeping an eye on again, they'll give anyone a good game IMO. Some fantastic defenders in their team, Walsh, Wylie and Mone are fantastic. The 2 Hughes are quality, Kieran is a great target man. They gel together very well as a team most imoprtantly.

Entertaining game. The players quickly sensed what sort of a referee they had and reacted accordingly. Pull, drag, haul.

This sort of refereeing is destroying football.

Can anyone clarify if Kavanagh got straight red or second yellow? Such a stupid thing to do when on a yellow, you could see Hughes was going to wind him up and try get him sent off. Second yellow yes, straight red harsh. Although I felt from the replay to single out Kavanagh after the melee was also harsh, he should not have got involved but you can argue the same for at least a half dozen other players. Better team won although I cannot see either team figuring at the end of the year on this evidence.

well done Monaghan,we could not keep up with yous, hopefully the boys will get back on course for Derry, Derry will be strong favorites now, feel Monaghan will beat Tyrone,Down, but that s it, as Cavan will beat them to get to Ulster final,no disrespect to Tyrone,Down,Armagh as i said at start of year Donegal v Cavan final, and i still feel that will happen, and i feel it more now as both Donegal, Cavan will be due a big win, game in Ulster, now people will not give either of these teams a chance, and Derry, Armagh, will be favorites,to advance, now i could be wrong, but we all know Ulster s winner will be either Derry,Tyrone,Monaghan,Donegal, or Cavan, no disrespect to other Ulster teams, but that will be the reality. again well done Monaghan, deserving winner s today.

Monaghan had ten different scorers and 14 scores from play out of 17. That is good going and there is no reliance on any one player. Great team performance great win. Push on now to Ulster.

Donegal were poor today Monaghan looked fitter. Lack of club games might mean that players aren't fully match fit, Monaghan have club games every week and looked sharper.

McHugh 11 will ya just admit your a cavan man. If Monaghan get passed the first round in ulster i fancy us to retain the title. Brilliant performance today and scoring freely from play. Wouldnt be surprised to see the same teams in ulster final. Subs made big impact today shows the depth of a panel malachy has created. 1-14 from play tells its own story. Special mention about Paul Finlay who today showed class is permenant, Many monaghan supporters wrote him off.

Yes was a straight red unfortunatly and will miss the derry game! Stupid thing to do im afraid. The usual display of pull haul and drag when Monaghan are involved but at the same time they totally deserved the win! Kavanagh should not have done it but the Monaghan lads reaction got him sent off NOT what he done. Minimal contact

shaggylegend Monaghan, you don t like when people speak up for Cavan, so you are saying now that yous will beat, Tyrone,Down,Cavan,Armagh, i bet yous fear Cavan, rather not play them, am i right, i think it s un fair when a lot of Monaghan people come on gloating about Cavan, alway s, any way great win today for yous, let the battle in Ulster commence.interesting games in store, cant wait, can Monaghan keep it up,here, hope yous do and go on and win your first All Ireland. i cant say it any better than that.

Very satisfying result and performance today alright. All but 2 points coming from play, and a good few cracking scores among that. At the start of the 2nd half I feared we might have got pegged back a bit as Donegal seemed to adjust better to the red card initially, and then the penalty was(wrongly) awarded and Walshe got the black card. But the immediate response with the goal was very encouraging and we made good use of the extra man, and from there it was too much for Donegal to get back into it. Darren Hughes being fit to start was massive, he makes such a difference and that was evident in the first half where he was excellent. Some great performances all over and I thought it was fitting that Dessie got the MOTM as he was our player of the league imo.

All in all, a good day. Always great to get a game in Croker early in the year, and just like last year we got a good performance and a trophy aswell. A decent warm up to the championship, we've a good while off now until the next competitive game though. Also it's interesting to see some people say they can't see either team doing much the rest of the year. Something tells me if the roles were reversed and Donegal won by 6 there'd be a very different tune being sung. Not saying we're going far this year or anything, but Dublin aside I don't see any really outstanding teams or big gaps between counties, could be an open enough championship.
