clondalkin.........I Personally think if you lack pace Croke Park is not the place to be.
Spot on clondalkin, apparently still harder to get off mayo team than on it.

1574563 I Personally think there carrying Andy Moran

Much and all as it upsets me, I think you're right. Andy remains our leader but I think his days as a starter are done.

Mayo will end up in a quarter final because of a totally loaded championship structure...so daft posts on here writing them off...how many other teams are guaranteed an all Ireland quarter final?

Stevie Wonder has just tweeted "Keith Higins is a corner back. Could you pass message on to Horan please!!"

Why do people feel the need to start a thread like this every time Mayo loose a game in Croke Park? Congrats to Derry who were the better team. As for where Mayo go from here....well back training I'd imagine as serious work is needed and then over to New York which is always a nice trip for us fans.

A cork poster mentioned that Mayo had bottled it today....welcome to the club Cork.

Horan has got to forget about Keith playing in the forward line for once and fir all. Yes, he'll get you a few scores and put pressure on the opposition forwards but he's needed in the fullback line. Vaughan is a dedent player but should be told never to attack beyond the opposition 40.

Am I thd only person that is mystified that Cafferkey

There are signs that the collective is not what it was...a lot of players trying to do too much on their own. Only good teams win, but we've a few individuals who are performing like divas... maybe this defeat will shake them out of self-indulgence? Could be a valuable defeat if it does this. Also think we've become too focussed on the Dubs and taken our eye off everyone else. Dubs were terrific today BTW... no prima donnas there.

Cavan would also need to do a bit more talking on the field YT before their posters avail of the opportunity to dish out salt!

I suppose one of the most worrying aspects for Mayo is that Horan singled out the league as being a big step for them as far as winning trophies is concerned and were going to give it their all, they failed poorly, I'm starting to wonder about Horan myself now, a good tactical manager would not have lost that recent game V Dublin and as for last years AI final, not noticing that your best player was minding an invalid was almost unbelievable.

They have very good footballers and having said all that, I would definitely not write them off!

Mayo struggled around midfield yesterday watched AOS closely yesterday and he had nothing more to give after 50mins his legs had gone. The lack of mobility in this sector will be found out in croke park I feel you can get away with this in smaller provincial venues but not in the big open spaces of croke park.
AOS tendency to hold onto the ball and invite the challenge hurts mayo it slows everything down.

The decision by james horan to take gibbons of was very strange as he was going well I counted he claimed four clean catches and was working hard. As in the All-Ireland final the wrong midfielder was replaced

They'll be back training tomorrow night. Plenty of time to get things right for August and Sept

They look a bit fatigued, to be honest. They've lost or drawn several league games from parity or a winning position this season, which is a bit of a worry. I suspect that the efforts of the past two seasons may be catching up with them a bit, we saw a similar thing with Donegal last year.

Having said that, it is only the league, and the championship structure favours Mayo, so we shall see what summer brings. As for strengthening the squad, it would be difficult to see where the talent would come from immediately.

My guess is that they will head back out west and prepare for the championship battles ahead, much like they do every year, in fact more or less what every other county that isn't involved in the league will be doing, apart from heading out west that is!

Im not that bothered at all if I am honest. We didnt need another big hyped up show down with dublin anyway and I dont believe horan was gunning for the league like many pundits said we would be. We can now prepare for championship. We never really got going in the derry match, it was just an off day. Best of luck to derry, I think people are forgetting they beat a lot of teams in the league, are generally a strong league team and on the day tehy put on a good performance. I thought they got a few very soft fouls though, where guys seemed to be going to ground on purpose under very light contact, and going forward I would hope refs would be more wary of this, but on the day they deserved to win. Mayo will have learned a few things Im sure. They can now get a few guys back, get their team settled and come again.

Also, where is the 'where to from here' thread for cork?

Mayo's defense last year was the best in the country. This year it looks porous.. How many goals have they conceded?.. They have not adapted their tackling to the new black card rules.. They looked like a tired team yesterday.. Derry are on ok side but Dublin will swat them aside in the final... Mayo didnt look like they had the energy to push on yesterday... even v 14 men.. they would have won that game at a canter last year.. I would be worried if i was a mayo fan as they looked mentally and physically tired.. Horan talked about work rate afterwards.. I think he was spot on.. but players need to be fresh to have a high workrate.. A trip to new york may be just the ticket to get the group away and air some dirty laundry amongst the group.. I would drop Andy Moran... A great servant but since his injury is ponderous on the ball

Like what happened against dublin in the league? I recall a very mobile midfield getting destroyed by our lads on that occasion, and in croke park too...

Gibbons doesnt have a great engine in general, he also had shipped a few heavy knocks over the course of the game. Also, to be fair, I think you will find that AOS fetched as many balls as gibbons did.

Cork are building a new team. Everybody knows where Cork are going. They can't get any worse than last year. Mayo on the other hand can't keep having glorious defeats for ever. There's two possible directions this Mayo team can go, win an AI (Won't happen) or rebuild the team.

The Master you have to a bit worried after that performance against a 14 man Derry team if that was last season Mayo would have won by 10 this Craic of managers not bothered about league games is bs , Mayo were up there yesterday to win that game just like every other team was. If we play a 14 man Derry team we will win by 15 points.

very impressed with young mikey sweeney yesterday. also thought jason gibbons was doing very well in the middle of the field. the decision to play kevin mcloughlin in the full forward line backfired today. was he fully fit ?. he lloked like he might not be. hennelly would need to find his man quicker with the kickouts. there were times where mayo men were in plenty of space but he dithered and resorted to belting it up the middle. very impressed with Derry keeper, he came out well off his line and really narrowed the angles well. Higgins didnt look too impressed coming off. I am starting to doubt James Horan myself.
