To be honest anyone wearing a county jersey in college should be locked up by the fashion police

Especially that grey Meath one that was out about six or seven years ago.

Well that's it, that's the great thing about the Gaa, we don't need fan segregation, even the worst of enemies on the pitch (Meath v Dublin, Cork v Kerry, Tipp v Kilkenny etc etc) can mix before, during and after a game, that's the way it is and should always be.

True enough Htaem. Thats the beauty of the GAA.

Ailteoir. "that is one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen posted on here. Jim Allister's dislike of anything GAA is well known. In 2011, he also expressed alarm at the proportion of Catholics in relation to Protestants in the University of Ulster" you are making a completely different point against Jim Allister"

Stick to the point of GAA jerseys in Ulster Universities. I have lived up there and have many great friends that are Protestant and I know they would be uncomfortable with GAA jerseys in their presence. Ive not worn them in their presence but have chatted to friends in groups with GAA jerseys and they have withdrawn from these conservations and these groups, clearly uncomfortable. I am saying this is a valid point. Don't go on the offensive with other arguments that is not relevant to this thread

I agree, that grey Meath jersey was poison but I didn't even like the green version of that particular jersey, our new one is looking crisp though!!! :-)

1572376 @cavan97 - 'He has a point' - that is one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen posted on here. Jim Allister's dislike of anything GAA is well known. In 2011, he also expressed alarm at the proportion of Catholics in relation to Protestants in the University of Ulster.

This is HIS constituency and one that loyalist politicians have neglected for decades, they have turned a blind eye to the needs of their people whilst at the same time using rabble rousing and scaremongering in order to keep them in their place. It won't work any more and the reason that higher education in the North is dominated by Catholic students is that we have used education to better ourselves and drag our community out of the mire created for us by successive Unionist governments. The loyalist people are leaderless and that is dangerous for the whole of the North unless they can find real politicians who are prepared to work on behalf of their community rather than using them as a tool of oppression and intimidation.

Would it perhaps be comparable to those on the other side feeling uncomforatable around people wearing rangers jerseys? I can vaguely understand the issue but still dont think it worthy of a ban. Id imagine there are places in the North and in Scotalnd where wearing either of the old firm jerseys would be banned however Im not sure you could put this under the same bracket.

Was indeed a goalie jersey, although I don't remember it being worn too often but I am an awful man when it comes to remembering those sort of things, maybe I was just trying to block it out, hard to know how the hell that thing got past the idea stages.

Yep I know Meath usually have green as their first choice, gold as their second and sometimes white as their third.

Ulsterman, what is your personal opinion of Jim Allister's comments? and of the banning of jerseys in general?

@Cavan97 - And I've lived up here for several years and went to the University of Ulster. You conveniently choose to ignore facts that you don't like. Allister's opinions on the GAA and his opinion in 2011 that there are too many Catholics in that university are a matter of record. His latest comments combine 2 of his pet dislikes.

Im not ignoring facts that I don't like, im sticking to the point of the thread!!! If there was a thread on Allister's opinions then voice them there. This is not that thread.

Intimidated by a jersey? What next, chased down the road by a football?

@Cavan97 - the point which clearly escapes you is that Allister's latest comments are more likely to have come from his previous statements relating to the GAA and the number of Catholics in university up here than any perceived 'threat' felt by some Protestants about GAA jerseys in those institutions.

@brendtheredhand - A very good and accurate summing up of the different attitude to the importance of education up here. The penny is beginning to drop with some Protestants but Jim Allister isn't one of them.
