All the huffing and puffing and hoohaaing here about this sky deal is now futile.

The gaa have sold out. Zip. Finished.

Mark my words, this deal is the ruination of the gaa as we know it.

No discussion.

I'm with Ormond on this. Complete OTT nonsense. The GAA are still the most central sporting body on the Island. Nothing has been sold out. 30 years ago sponsors on jerseys was going to be the ruination of the gaa as we know it and selling out in some narrow minds. 50 years ago allowing lads to go watch a rugby or soccer match inflamed some backward egos.
I'll agree on one thing: its a done deal. Now we just need to sit back and see how the next 3 years go.
Oh and yes the discussion will go on. You don't have the power to call an end to it with 2 words. No matter how self important you are.

This is something that obviously never would've made it through Congress when you see all the backward emotionally scaremongering being whipped up. If people aren't happy with it it can be done away with at Congress in 3 years time.

Yes and I think this is a disgrace. None of the politicans business!!! Why they never haul in the FAI, or IRFU or other sports when they sign a deal?????

O'Mahony playing to the crowd.

The GAA is ruined, going Pro etc. from the day they started showing more matches on TV, from the day sponsors appeared on the jerseys, from the day GAA players got grants........take your pick and yet none of this happened!!!

The only real problem is SKY will show up RTE on presentation, camera work etc and then the same committee will haul in RTE to ask them why they cannot cover our national games correctly?

I have already exposed the GAA officialdom as liars!.....You dont need some toothless all party public accounts (joke) committee on their overpaid salaries to do what I have already done for the public for free!!!!

Like most jurno even, they all take their lead from Snufalufagus!

Regards,

Snufalufagus....Laochra Gael

The top men in the GAA haven't got a backbone between them. It showed when they agreed to go on that farce prime time on RTE and proceeded to be torn apart. No reason why they should answer to any committee about selling THEIR television rights. They're just trying to keep everyone happy, as usual.

Coming to you here from the Gaelic Grounds in this epic encounter between Limerick and Antrim in this must win playoff in front of this huge crowd of two thousand people.

AND ITS LIVE

Whole thing is a joke, would not worry too much. Just a money making racket for sky abroad me thinks.

In fairness to Sky they have not ruined too many sports just made them more accessible and raised the profile.

Rugby and Darts (if you call it a sport) in particular.

As I suspected nothing of substance from these two professional well paid wafflers.
The genie is already out of the bottle in relation to pay-for-play, they are two late. These two guys worst nightmare is payments to players and its going to happen, they just made sure of it. Couldn't care less who shows our games just so long as they are screwed for every penny, but apparently thats not the case according to Laurel and Hardy.

Actually I got some clarity from today's hearing.

1) The biggest one for me was that the channell 7 deal in Oz is totally separate to the sky deal and could have been done without the sky deal. The foreign viewership argument pertains to mainland Europe & England only under the sky argument so we needn't hear the Australian angle in the debate anymore.

2) the total amount of televised games will be 45 not 40 as I previously understood.

3) RTÉ will not be losing anything from the amount of live games shown but are losing games of large audiences ie quarter finals etc

I still have mixed feelings about the deal but very different to those I had before today.

TV3 getting the rights to the RWC is a disaster for rugby fans. They won't even show half of the games!

Wont be a disaster if their commentators/analysts are better than 2007 world cup when they were sh**e

I wonder what the cheerleaders of this deal after aiden o shea's revelations. O'shea has basically called for pay for play on the back of the sky deal. His comment "the only people not getting paid on all Ireland final day were the players". If this is not an attempt to cash in by a senior county player' then I dunno what is. The thin end of the wedge boys, the thin end of the wedge!

Mayotyroneman,

Yes, you're right. Aidan O'Shea would surely be a key negotiator in any such deal.

Players have been saying that line for years. And he's right. If I was selling hotdogs I'd be looking for a medal. Only players get medals on All-Ireland final day . This situation should be addressed.
