I agree there,Tyrone probably better than 80 Percent of minor teams this year...

Any evidence to back that up...or is it just a groundless 'Ah reckon'?!?

Saying that a team is better that 80% of the other teams doesn't make any sense - sure they were beaten and they are out. In fairness if they were that outstanding they wouldn't have lost to Monaghan (Monaghan beat them in Ulster final last year also don't forget). So Tyrone have benefited from the back door previously.

What is with people from Donegal and talking up Tyrone teams? We are in the final this year with a good minor team (which doesn't come around every year) we should be glad to be there and enjoying it ourselves and not be worrying about a back door for other teams?! I didn't hear of Tyrone calling for a back door for Donegal last year after winning in Ballybofey - you just wouldn't see that and understandably so.

i think connacht should have a round robin or back door whatever you call it
last year in galways case came up against the all ireland champs mayo in first round
they took that mayo team to extra time but lost
and that was it for year kinda crazy
when so much time n effort is put into preparing minor teams
but the biggest thing really is to give young lads more matches at championship level
its amazing to see how much minor teams improve with games
and with young lads they will allways have days when nerves etc kick in

Neighbours, neighbours:::::::: you should love your Neighbours.
I'm not calling for the back door for Tyrone :::it's to give all minor teams an extra game or two.
Now do you not think that if there had been a back door system last year that it would have benefited The Donegal minors last year. Of course it would and we could have got a good run in the AI series.
Let's hope this years minor team do the business and I'd like to see them go on and win our first Minor All Ireland

Seen them play 3 times this year, very good minor team as are Monaghan. Did I say they were better than our minor team? All I said was there a good minor team. Donegal have a strong one this year, Fancy Kerry,Galway,Donegal or Dublin for it this year! Back to my point earlier,I'd be 100 % behind the backdoor system for minors.

There is a Spillane lad that is meant to be very good on the Kerry team isn't there ?/b]
Yes - according to Pat Spillane anyway. Pat rates his nephew as a combination of Jack O'Shea, the Gooch and Cuchulain or some such typically modest assessment.

By all accounts Leitrim have a very good team this year. They won the minor league and beat mayo along the way. Think the galway game was a draw but open to correction there as im not 100%. Certainly wouldn't rule them out in Connacht though they are playing my own county this weekend in Hyde park. Any team managed by fergal o donnell will be well drilled and disciplined so hoping we can get a win but if we don't I have a sneaking suspicion they will win their first minor Connacht championship since 1998.

I felt for Donegal last year, as their minor team was as good as the Tyrone one that reached the final. The same happened to Tyrone in 2009. Lost to Armagh due to two very dubious penalty decisions, Tyrone went out and Armagh went on to win. Tyrone were the best team in the country that year. All I want is consistency. Every province should be governed by the same rules.

i think leitrim are minors are very good this year i saw them against Mayo in carrick on the day of the u21 connacht final, i think mayo are really impressive in the backs and forwards just worried about the midfield thats all. I wound be happy if leitrim won by a few points it would be a shock but after roscommon bad league campaign i dont see them winning if they did just by a few points 2 r 3 i hope leitrim do win even tough im a rossie fan. They would put pride in leitrim jersey once again :). Mayo have a very good strong midfield this year and good backs and forwards and be good tough outfit 2 beat galway and then mayo reigning all ireland champions.

I would like it 2 be a mayo v leitrim connacht final

Leitrim bet Sligo,Ros,Mayo and Galway on route to winning the minor league title the only game they didn't win was against Longford which ended in a draw. Roscommon's best hope is probably management however this is probably the best Leitrim minor team for two or three decades and more than capable of winning the Connacht title this July.

Mayo not at the level of last year Cian Hanley probably carrying the side at the moment, Galway should beat them in Tuam.

Don't be surprised to see a Donegal - Monaghan Minor final!

Leitrim are the best minor team in connacht currently and have their best in decades. Beat all other connact teams in the minor league in beat galway in Tuam in the final game to win the league. Which is remarkable when you consider they have approx. 500 lads in the county eligible for minor grade year (and many of them don't play football) to pick from. Hopefully they can carry their form and potential into championship and lay down a marker

Leitrim and Galway knocked out of Connaught tonight by Roscommon and Mayo respectively. Two underdogs going into the game come out with the win!
Roscommon 2-13 Leitrim 1-11
Mayo 3-07 Galway 1-12

Armagh beat Monaghan 1-8 to 9 points also. So they meet Donegal in the final. Tasty one!
What do we think lads??

If Leitrim are the best minor team in Connacht, why aren't they in the final? Mayo told they were no good for the second year in a row. Delighted with that result last night but have to feel sorry for Galway. They should have had it wrapped up at ht. with Mayo. It put away you felt we had the chance to win and so it was.

They have back door in Leinster and Munster so it should be the same for other 2 provinces.

Agree foolsgold there should be a back door. League and championship are different things delighted for our boys. Its funny people talking at the start of the championship about teams been the best team like Geoff on about Tyrone been the best minor team in 09 despite them not even reaching a ulster final or doing anything at u 21 level.
