We played dat longford group at u16 level fr manning n was impressed. Physically very big, organised n wit a few class forwards. They outplayed our lads dat day who I would rate as one of our best groups to come out of leitrim in sum time. Although dat might nt be sayin much!:)

'Tis a fine Longford team, by all accounts. A few dual players on it actually.

How are things looking now around the country? Any early shouts for contenders?

Galway are unbeaten so far in the Connacht minor league having played Longford, Sligo and Mayo. Playing Roscommon this weekend. Not sure how much it means though. Sure our U-21's lost to Leitrim with half of last year's All-Ireland winning team still left. You never know on the day at that age.

Longford won the Leinster minor league this season & are also playing in the Connacht league. They could go far in Leinster if they beat Dublin again...

I think that Cavan will be dark horses for Ulster and indeed the All Ireland. They will have to overcome Tyrone in the Ulster Semi to do so. I have a feeling that if they can do that they can go very far!

Saw Leitrim beat Mayo today in Carrick and they look to have a nice balanced team who play a good brand of football, will not be surprised if they beat Roscommon in the connacht semi-final and I expect a good Galway team to qualify from the other side. But its early days yet.

Not hearing alot about our boys , have heard very good things about this years under 16s so maybe 2015 will be our year , but at minor level really is difficult to gage as growth spurts one year to another can make a huge difference

Ulsters impossible to predict,as is Leinster at Minor level! Cork and Kerry in Munster and Galway seem to be contenders in Connaught it seems. Surprised to hear the likes of Leitrim and Longford having strong minor teams! Anyone care to share some insight to there underage structures?

Viva I would think that in Leitrim, it comes down to Excellent coaching taking place from under 15 up this is happening in spite of rather than because of anything that is being done at board level, also a very good crop of footballers.

Every few years we come across a good crop which is shown in the few Leinster minor titles we've won as well as regular good runs in the Leinster U21.

Almost every hurler in Longford IS a duAl player. Would you like me to name specific players off the current minor football team who also play or have played club &/or county hurling?

Leitrim should have a big big say in Connacht this year. They are flying and finished the Connacht minor league unbeaten, beating Roscommon, mayo and sligo on the way and then beat Galway in Tuam in the final game to win it. Hopefully they will carry this excellent form into championship. Look a great bunch of lads and an excellent team

Longford have had a fine run of games so far, where treated very poor by referees in Connaught had the same ref for there last three games and got no decisions. Leitrim looked strong but with another ref longford would have won. Dublin will be very strong this year Colaiste Eoin and St.Aidans where brillinant this year and expect a lot of these players to be on that squad. Na Fianna won the u14 Feile in 2010 and reports say they are incredibally strong. Clare are a team to watch in Munster seemed to not want to win in Leinster as they put out a weakened team against Laois.

I see Offaly scored 7-30 against Kilkenny today. That's a score nearly every 90 seconds! It's tough on the poor lads in Kilkenny who actually make themselves available to play, but something really needs to be done there. Any chance that some money could be found to raise standards? (In a similar way to underage hurling development in the "weaker" hurling counties)
