1538529 The easy solution for the league is to use it as a ranking for championship draws. That'd give it something of an added edge. It's unlikely to ever happen.

Without trying to be smart legendxix, What advantage would ranking be to Kerry or Cork , your in Munster final every year. Do you mean doing away with the provincials?.

Well they already use to league to rank teams in the Munster championship.

It's up to each province how they want to run their championships. As the GAA run the league and qualifiers, I'd suggest seeding used for qualifier draws. The main reason I'd call for it is for fairness for teams from Ulster. It's a bit harsh on an Ulster team to be knocked out by a fellow division 1 team in a provincial quarter-final and then draw another in the qualifier round 1. Seeding would at least bring some fairness. The division 1 Ulster team would get to take on a lower league county e.g. the lower league counties they complain Kerry have to get past on route to a Munster final.

The 2 best teams in the country playing each other this weekend, under lights, on TV.

I thought ye were playing Kerry, not Mayo?

+1

Some of the Kerry-Dublin nostalgia would sicken ye. "The purists"... me eye! At least Tipperary are an equal opportunities employer when it comes to blue ribband rivalries in hurling (Cork, Killkenny, Galway, Clare... as long as Tipp are there, it's box office ;)).

Some of the attitudes to our second tournament on here is fierce defeatist, and as long as that prevails amongst the more enthusiastic fans as you get here on HS, then we are ******* into the wind.

Shame

I agree roundball. Purists? Pure BS more like! This amounts to a few lads trying to hang off the coat-tails of kerry. Forget it, kery are kerry, the rest are the rest.

Imagine, the god awful Garth Brooks a bigger draw at Croke park than the biggest rivalry going, something definitely wrong with this country!

Not sure why my previous post was not allowed!

Anyway, to summarise. The reason Liam is not so much the lack of effort by the GAA, it has more to do with the infatuation of the broadcast and print media with that rubbish across the water. Dublin and Kerry semi final last year got vastly bigger TV viewing than any EPL borefest but the match on Saturday is not even mentioned on some sports reports which devote nearly all their time to 'City' and 'Villa'. Shameful for alleged national broadcaster in particular.

Des Cahill's sports "news" this morning featured a spat between a rugby player and a journalist, and "the special one" whinging about refereeing decisions in a 0-0 borefest. But there was NO mention of Kerry-Dublin, or any other NFL game for that matter. Now if Cahill, who is supposed to be interested in GAA games, doesn't feature it, what chance have we with other RTE broadcasters who believe that all sport revolves around the EPL and egg-chasing??

its a national league game, that would not resemble the teams if they meet again in the championship

Until the Managers and Players take it seriously how the hell do you think the Media are going to take it seriously .

I will be shouting on for kerry Liamo from my sitting room, streaming it off the interent to the tv,a mug of tea in one hand and a few nice biccies in the other.
To be honest I am not going to vouch for other Kerry ppl but for me the game is too far to travel for a Kerry team that wont resemble anything like it will come August.
Hopefully the young lads will do themselves justice but it could easily be an awful hiding we get on Saturday. Hopefully not though

Honestly thought from the title of the thread you were referring to Derry vs Tyrone. The real biggest rivalry!

I would be in favour of provincial teams being kept apart in rounds 1 & 2 of the qualifiers if at all possible, make round 3 an open draw. Leave round 4 as is.

A form of seeding based on final National league position should be used for Provincial draw.

More hype could be drummed up. You look at the way sky sports promote any sports event they show....masterclass in hyping something up. I reckon they would hypnotise us into watching two flies climbing a wall if they covered it.

Time to face the facts folks. Croke Park will be 1/4 full at best because the National League is the poor relation compared to the championship.

In contrast the EPL is soccer's premier competition & the same applies to the six Nations.

GAA's time in the sun is the summer when we will all be on here bellyaching about not being able to get tickets.

Yeah tell pat flanagan that the league matters after bringing westmeath unbeaten to div one only to be turfed out cause got hammering in rd one. Get a grip. Its only used as a extension of training for championship and until managers players and supporters view it with equal importance its up there with obyrne cup pointless apart from finding a few new lads.

@ woops

Why not head to the game?? A chance to see some of the young talent coming through in both Dublin and Kerry! If I was still living in Ireland I'd be at that game in a heartbeat. Love going to the league games, sure the standard isn't as high but still beats most sporting occasions in my opinion. Always great to see how your county are shaping up. It is disappointing that the media don't make more of it, but in fairness it's all about money in their minds. And the league doesn't sell. It would take a change to whole psyche of the Irish population to make it a spectacle that everyone is interested in. Then the media will pay attention. The GAA should be doing more advertising, but I guess they don't see a return from attendances. The game is 10euro in, I can't see how in a city with 1.5 million people they can't at least get 40,000 to show up for a tenner. But i'm taking a swing at the dubs it's similar all over the country just at a smaller scale.
