I'm not a safe distance at all but that doesn't stop me voicing my opinion
I think u are at a very safe distance.

Meath players over the years have been no angels but whatever they did if was up front and in your face and without a trace of cowardice, lol

as cowardly an act as the bite was it was as cowardly not to stand up to it and make an example of the crime and it's perpetrator the cccc ruled that the player was bitten, it was the appeal that was the issue.

Again not to belittle you Richieq.......

But the reality is you might know the player claiming a bite against him. He might say he definitely got bit. But he didn't turn up to the adjudication, which means the accused player can only be presumed innocent. That makes the guy accusing someone of a vile act a liar.

I know someone involved in the Dublin set up, they say he wasn't bit.

Who do you believe?

It would have been better both players attend the hearing, as one player would have probably been found out. Would have sent a message out to those who partake in vile acts/those who pretend they were the victims of vile acts that this is unacceptable either way.

But nothing happened.

Issuing an address saying a biting incident was a low point in the GAA this year is in fact a LOWER point in my opinion. There was an alleged biting incident, one which was inconclusive. Saying something that may have happened was a low point is pretty stupid!

-------
Very good post Jayp and sums up the failings on all sides. As you say the best outcome would have been for both parties to have attended the appeal hearing. Unfortunately only one did so there could only be one outcome. The whole disciplinary process is very shoddy, the authorities are far too slow to act. The real low point in the year was not the alleged incident itself but rather the GAA's shambolic handling of the disciplinary process and resulting fallout.

The accused turned up whereas the accuser did not.

Nothing else to be done by dragging this all up again. He didn't stand up and pursue it then for his own reasons. We've all heard differing reasons for why this happened but we'll never really know I suppose.

1534769 I think Duffy's revelation now leaves the GAA far more damaged and many within the GAA and Dublin with egg on their faces. Duffy has confirmed that there was a bite on the Donegal palyer, the mark was severe but because no one owned up to it the guilty party got off!! Why did the GAA not clear the doubts up last year when many, particularly in the Dublin camp and fanbase, buried their heads and denied a bite ever happened? I think this is shocking. Young McBrearty and Donegal have had to unfairly carry a lot of this about over the past year when in effect they NEVER did anything wrong. It just adds fuel to the theory that Dublin are a special case and can get way with anything.

For the sake of justice and allowing the GAA to possibly do their job , I wish mc brearty had of followed true with this case , but he didn't and that doesn't set a great example to anyone thinking off pressing forward with similar cases.
So Ulsterman get off your High horse.

There appears to be no video evidence, or none forthcoming anyway, of this game. I find it hard to believe that neither team was recording this game for training purposes.

Also, people should stop talking about the kevin o'brien case so much, it is done now. Going over it isnt going to make a difference. There is another issue at hand here.

IF a player is guilty of biting an opponent he should own up and take the punishment and not hide behind any red tape.
End of..
It is a man's game after all.
If frustration or anger takes over a player in a game, there are more manly ways of dealing with it on the pitch believe me....

In saying that, other things that happen on a pitch should also get the same amount of coverage, eg spitting at an opponent is one..

You'd need to bring in CSI to solve this case. As far as I'm concerned, Donegal produced picture evidence, also evidence from a doctor saying he had to give McBrearty an injection because of a bite, but failed to see out their complaint. Put up or shut up, a terrible example for recent All-Ireland champions to set. It is also a terrible example for the current All-Ireland champions to be setting, EL will get off too. Having played against Jim Gavin this sort of action is totally alien to the way he sees football and how it should be played, always a gentleman. Finally, the anti-Dub theories from the Dublin posters is getting a bit nauseating again! I think Padraic Duffy is right, shame on both county set-ups, from County Executives to County Panel to County team management.

I was at the game and didn't see so much as a disposable Kodak camera. The alleged incident occurred during a fracas involving about 12 players. The Hubble telescope wouldn't have picked out a bite amongst the mass of bodies, never mind an unfocused team handycam.

Salmonneile....

To be honest posting the guys initials is out of order. He will be charged and if he feels he done no wrong he should appeal and then the burden of evidence comes into play. Unless an official saw an incident little can be done unless you involved the Gardaí on the night of the game. That didn't happen so we will wait on the refs report.

He probably will get "away" with an alleged incident. But you cant say hes got away with something that he probably didn't do. Let procedure occur and wait for the outcome. I could allege you assaulted me yesterday, that doesn't make it true.

Furthermore, a bruise on an arm and a team doctor giving an injection doesn't really mean anything. Donegal claimed that the Dublin team doctor backed up it was a bite; only for the Dublin team doctor to refute that statement and had to publicly say he just acknowledged the player had a bruise. So the only way we were gonna get to the bottom with BITE-GATE last year was for both to attend a hearing. It didn't happen so nothing can be done. But you cant presume guilt because you want it that way. No solid evidence was provided and the accuser didn't turn up.

Im not gonna pass any judgement on the DCU case; if the ref has it in his report charges will no doubt be brought and its up to the players in question to attend a hearing and hopefully justice is dished out, excuse the pun, either way.

But its bad form posting an alleged players name or initials on a public forum, you are nailing the guy to the cross before hes been proven guilty of doing anything.

The only thing nauseating is your apparent presumption of guilt in the case of the Dublin player in the DCU case. You then top it off by naming the Dublin player. The only example set by the current AI champions is how to follow the disciplinary process. The AI champions as a collective body cannot be held accountable for the actions of an individual and an alleged spur of the moment action in a fracas. I have no doubt that if this player is found guilty of any wrong doing then the DCB will deal with him harshly. Until such time the player is innocent even though some seem intent on naming him publically anyway.

I see Jason Whelan has been given an 8 week ban.. what do we think of that ?

8 Measley weeks... I'm sorry but every GAA person here must agree that the punishment far from fits the crime, there should be another 40 weeks at least put before the 8. I hate dragging his name into the conversation but a certain Kerry player got 3 months for what the CCC deemed "assault" when he knocked the notebook out of the referee's hand in Killarney, if he was in the doc for biting he would prob get jail... I'm sorry but the lack of consistency by the CCCC and the GAA hierarchy is becoming very disillusional for the everyday Gaa fan.

I didn't comment on this until the verdict, disgraceful carry on by Whelan but an 8 week ban is even more disgraceful,

An eight week ban for 'inflicting injury recklessly' is an utter farce and is a sad indictment of the CCCC and their 'power' to prevent such cowardly acts.

And before anyone jumps on me, if it were a Meath player that even attempted to bite an opponent, I would expect him to be dropped from the panel and not considered for selection for a very very long time.

Apologies to all concerned and to the player I referred to, my Dublin mole gave me that information, clearly wrong of me to presume! Glad that the Dublin set up have accepted the 8 week ban and we can put this all behind us. I have to say that I'm surprised that they did, completely different approach to last year's incident. A shocking thing to do and I suppose it is only the nature of things now that people totally deny anything until anything is proven. The day of a man taking his due punishment is gone. A cowardly act to perpetrate and just as cowardly to deny it then!

OK Dublin posters, I'm awaiting a pummelling from you guys for my false presumption and I deserve it!

Good to see that the player "handed himself in" so to speak...
Probably a 3-month ban would have been more fitting, so this type of act doesnt occur again.

In saying that, I have to say that the Witch Hunt that went on by some posters here on HS was out of order and disgraceful that an incorrect player was wrongly highlighted as the culprit.

Hopefully this will put an end to the Mass Hysteria...

8 weeks is a disgraceful ban, should be 8 years
He bit another man, there is no defence, there is no mitigating circumstances, he bit another human being
8 weeks is comical
