Whelans ban is too short , no doubt about that , reasons for what he did are irrelevant although may make his actions understandable , I was asked would I ever bite someone and I answered " does he have hold of my nuts " and in there that sentence is the reality , circumstances dictate .
What has happened is something that probably not been envisaged by CCCC has come to light , now rule books need to be redefined , a bite is not contact and needs its own definition , Whelan has been judged and sentenced by current rule book , he or any other future offenders should know in advance the lengthy sentence awaiting them ,
Having followed this and last years incident its been interesting the take by Dublin fans , we battened up the hatches as the culchies laid siege , now its been revealed that on this occasion there was merit to accusations its killing us and for some the answer is throw JW to the Wolves , more so than ever we need to stick together JW is one of our own who has screwed up in a massive way , he has been named and shamed , he does deserve the chance to make it up to the fan,s teammates, coaches, family and jersey he may have let down

So now we have clarification from top brass on gas. It is now not the manly thing to do to strive for justice and follow the disciplinary process to it's conclusion. Instead players should waive their right to appeal. Otherwise they are not a man. Unbelievable!

I agree MOOMOO not a mention of the DCU lad who had poor Jason in a headlock and nearly UFC style choked him out.
Shame on you Dub Posters , don't try and brush what the DCU lad did under the carpet.
If Galvin Klein had of choked someone the book would have been thrown at him .Well at least knocked out of his hand.

Although the punishment was very lenient, let it be over now.The lad should not be ostracized, everybody deserves a second chance.

Did Jason apologise to the student? A 6 month ban would be more suitable but the victim must be entitled to legal due process also.

By continuing to discuss it................

Lets take an example of your own comments ''Again O'Byrne Cup versus All-Ireland Quarter Final. Have a think man. Yes one incident was worse than the other but think of the difference between the profiles of the games'' here you are trying to brush it under the carpet by claiming because of the profile of the game that not as big a deal should be made about it, also (something you're quite the expert at) you're trying to use something totally unrelated to back that point up. Will this be another case of you saying one thing but actually meaning another?

Makes you think... perhaps players that are sticking their arms around a players neck, pushing their arms into another players throat in an aggressive manner causing pain and maybe even panic...

Perhaps maybe... if you got a bite... that perhaps you may have had a big part in that unfortunate outcome.

Keep your arms to yourself maybe?

So you're also now justifying his actions are you?

Yes moomoo, Jimbo is justifying Whelans action.

You are talking about big bans/too lenient. The GAA brushing it under the carpet etc etc

I said this a few pages back, if someone had a hold of me and was not letting me go, like a headlock where I felt I was being choked or not able to breathe properly; ID BITE SOMEONE.

And wouldn't apologise about it. People have asked also has Whelan apologised to the DCU player....has the DCU player apologised to him? You hardly think he walked up to the young lad and said......MmmMmmMmmm DELICIOUS....I WANNA EAT SOME ARM TODAY.

I think, hold on, I'm speculating here.....The DCU player might have done something to get a reaction such as a bite. I don't think even the most ridiculous posters on HS would contest that comment.

BITING IS WRONG. Its not nice to see or hear about. But, he may have bit the DCU player for a reason. He admitted the bite, and got punished accordingly.

Hardly swept under the carpet. Dublin posters haven't defended biting Luis Suarez style. But the guy hardly deserves to be decapitated for something he may have been doing in self defence.

No moomoo

Read my posts

I'm echoing the point made by a number of other posters

Some of which aren't even from Dublin

You have to be punished if you bite..

But if I was being choked, arm around my neck, forearm stuck in my throat in an aggresive/violent manner

Cutting off oxygen... then panic can take hold... and instinct kicks in

And has been admitted by a number of posters... given that level of dangerous / violent conduct and not being able to breath

I think anyone could be capable of bitting

I would. So if players are in the business of choking another player... if that results in you getting a bite

You have to admit that you've put yourself in that position.

But you have to take what's coming to you... If you bite, you should be punished... No doubt.

JW has been punished

In this case choking was deemed acceptable though

How many weeks suspension for cutting off oxygen to the brain?

Just stop trying to justify it. He bit someone and won't play football again this year, get over it and move on.

Justify it?

Not at all

Understand it is far more appropriate

Moomoo

How is discussing the relative coverage of the incident versus others in the context of the profile of the game trying to brush the incident under the carpet. Do explain.

We are discussing the incident so therefore not in any way brushing it under the carpet. You really are a funny little poster who doesn't seem to understand the most basic of things.

You seem to believe that Dublin posters continuing to discuss an incident equates to those Dublin posters trying to brush said incident under the carpet. I mean that is classic moomoo inability to understand things. Brilliant stuff.

Unfortunately for many posters

They are unwilling to look at this objectively and from a perspective of understanding the entire incident

To understand why it happened may point to a solution

Perhaps choking a player or jamming your forearm into another players throat has resulted in players biting...

Of course JW was wrong, what he did was against the rules

But given the circumstance... I can understand why he did it

I'd do it myself if I couldn't breath... but it's against the rules and you have to take what's coming you

'Understanding' something is tantamount to justifying it. By providing a rationale to this a context is being set in which 'biting' someone can be excused and justified. That is what people are doing. Furthermore a senior GAA officila stating that "Dublin" are manly for accepting their punishment is shocking and a complete disgrace. The Dublin tabloids latched on to these comments immediately and published big glowing positive articles about Dublin and ignoring the actual incident. Once again the Dubs come up smelling of roses.
