Waterford Minor Team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

How talented is this Waterford minor team? We've had some good minor teams over the last 5/6 years but this team looks particularly strong. We lost to Tipp first game but there has been a number of changes since which has really strengthened this team. All around the field we have talented players but have a few outstanding hurlers in the likes of Gleeson center back, Curran and Bennett in the full forward line. We also have a really strong bench which showed in the last two games in particular with the likes of DJ Foran and Breathnach making big impacts. What can really make the difference too is experience of some of these players winning one and two all Ireland medals this year for collages. No doubt the Munster final will be close against Limerick up in Limerick. Expecting full attendance with probably at least 70% of that to be Limerick supporters, so if Waterford can win they'll be doing it the hard way. If weather is good this will be a great game. Up the Deise.

Not the greatest display from either team but maybe a good way of getting to the final......save the best till last hopefully. That display wouldn't beat Limerick/Galway in the final. They did enough t get over the line and can improve considerably with the talent they have. In my opinion Gleason and Bennett are physically strong enough to go straight into senior panel next year if not straight into the team. Good Luck in the Final. Deise Abu.

Best of luck in the final. if ye win I will be happy for Waterford hurling. The other munster county took alot of attention away from Waterford with all the legitimate crying about the ref. and the flaws of the GAA in the semi. I'd say that helped you guys focus on the big game. Anyway, looking forward to a good game, let the best team win.

A well-deserved win and that's from a Galwegian. Showed great skill - loved the soloing. Hardly ever see it now in Senior. Great goal too.

Congrats to Waterford minors on a well deserved all-Ireland today. Look forward to seeing many of the team in action in years to come esoecially the Bennett brothers and Patrick curran. Any relation of Patrick curran who played for Waterford in early 70s in my first trip to Semple Stadium? Also in action that day was another player I remember J Greene.

Yes Patricks father Pat Curran senior hurled for Waterford in the 70's, As did Pat Bennett father of Stephen and Shane Bennett who soldiered for Waterford for many years throughout the 70s and 80s with zero success in what were dark days. DJ Foran and Cian Leamy's fathers also lined out for Waterford during that era. Its great reward for these great servants to see their sons contribute hugely to this win.

Another very nice element to yesterdays win is that wing back Micheál Harney is grandson of Joe Harney, and Cormac Curran who came on as a sub is grandson to the great Austin Flynn. Both of whom were members of the last victorious All Ireland winning team in 1959.

Congrats to everyone in the Deise county from everybody up here in Breffni.
What a super team and would love to se you go on and lift McCarthy Cup over the next few years. Heard a whisper that there might be a Cavan connection with young Patrick Curran the MOM. Believe his mom is a Ballyhaise woman. Great year for the Breffni Blues as well.

Congrats to Waterford on a massive win for your county,i was at Munster final drawn match and to say we were lucky.......didn't make the replay but for us to beat that waterford team and ye to win the all irl surely only better times ahead for both counties.

A first minor all-Ireland in 65 years and 4 days later and there is still only one post on here from a Waterford person! Is there no internet service in Waterford? Is everyone still on the p**s? Or do ye just not care about minor titles?
