Yeah Micky wing indeed. He has Senior Hurling Championship medal with Rossa in Belfast and is now also their Senior manager.

Went to school with a lad who played a bit of McCrory cup in goals with one leg. Agile as anything. He would detatch the prosthetic before a game and you could see the aul trackey leg flappin about as he dashed from post to post.

There was a young lad from Shelmaliers in Wexford who played underage football with only one arm. He was pretty good also, it actually took me a while before I noticed he was different to the others.

I think I recall an U-16 match long ago in Drumaness, Co.Down and one of their backs had one hand. I can remember him going on a solo run. It seems to be more common than I thought also, and inspirational.

I remember playing against mickey wing when he was at the cbs in belfast and i was playing a friendly against them for uuc. He destroyed us that day and was strong as an ox. He was very difficult to read due to his unconventional style of play. Fair play to him

P.J. Richardson of Doon died tragically in 2013 - just short of his 50th birthday. If you go to youtube and 'bipolar bare' you'll hear him speak of his challenges in later years. He was a 'dinger' at quizzes - Where in the World, Scor na nOg All Ireland, Rapid Roulette and a senior All Ireland pub quiz with Crusheen - while he worked in Clare. He was a fine golfer - including a hole in one at Nenagh. He won Desmond schoolboy soccer league, community games athletics and excelled at most things especially hurling. He was on one of Doon's best ever under age teams and the Sunday papers wrote about him. He won 2 county U14 medals went on to win Limerick county medals all the way up through the ages up to U21. He lost his arm in a farm tractor accident age 9 in 1972. Maybe partly due to delayed trauma of that he was diagnosed with bipolar depression in his 30's forcing him to give up his post with Limerick Co Co. He was then diagnosed with M.S. in his 40's - he had no luck at all health-wise. He won some East Limerick adult medals after under age but his teams won no further county honours. Guys told me that when they saw this one armed boy coming they'd reckon, I better go easy on him. If so, they'd get a rudely awakened or split by PJ pulling on the ball like a 'hoor', or they'd notice that standing admiring while he was knocking over points didnt make them look good. Some who he befriended later, once they knew his form, had some epic 'flaking' matches with him and knew that for the duration of a match all bets were off. He got disoriented - to do with his medication, lost his way in the dark and died in a field near home on a frosty night in January 2013. Hurling people from miles away came out in force to bury him.

There was a lad with one ball used to play with us as kids. Every time he showed up at training , the manager told him to hop it.

I remember the old Breaking Ball show did a feature on Mickey McCullough. Am I right in saying he now coaches one of the Antrim camogie teams?
