Dublin v Donegal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Donegal have the Dubs well and truely rattled.. The Dublin forwards have not got a sniff inside, not one point from play in the first half says it all. Diarmiud Connolly is showing his true colours, Bernard Brogan touched the ball 2 or 3 times. Blanket defence or no blanket defence Donegal want this more.. I think Pat Gilroy should be bringing on Eoghan O'Gara.

Effective stuff from Donegal, but have to say Kildare were doing much better than dubs against the walll at this stage!

I posted a separate thread on banning the forward handpass - getting little support I must say.

This has me more convinced than ever - if your primary means of getting forward is kicking then the knock-on effects completely open the game - forcing more like hurling.

Finf the game interesting, but takes a way the joy of watching teams challenging for a ball.

Absolutely dreadful game of football. Hope Dublin can win it, otherwise the All Ireland final won't be watchable.

This is one match I'm not going to record. Actually get sick watching it. Puke football? This is way beyond puking. Tyrone deploy a blanket defense but at least counter and have great forwards too. This is just killing the game.

This is hiliarous stuff this morning I was at an U12 Ladies Football match the half-time score 2-4 to 1-8, both teams are an utter disgrace to the game. First of Dublin, is that the sum of weeks of preparation? Its not as if no one knew what type of game this was going to be. Donegal fairplay they have invented a new game, highland football, they'll be masters for years. Me I'll stick to the girls and ladies. Its up to the Dubs to change and attack but I can't see it. Maybe Alan Brogan needs a rest from kicking all those wides. Should I pray for a better second half? do I care? I'm off to walk the dog.

Regardless who wins; I'll be doing the unthinkable and supporting Kerry in the final. Donegal have played this defense all summer, and what's shocking is how unprepared Dublin are for it. It's like they expected Donegal to get as far as Croke Park and then forsake the game plan that got them there.

Sigh.

Fascinating game.

Spillane's analysis as usual is woeful.

Brolly has summed the game up perfect.

Thankfully for Spillane, the game will open up a bit more in the second half as legs tire though that isn't nessecarily good news for Dublin.

Christy Toye taken off for kicking the ball I'd say

The only way to prepare is to adopt a similiar gameplan yourself - exactly what Dublin have been doing all year.

I want the FORWARD handpass banned. A lot less funny that watching outdoor basketball posing at football. Despairing here at a typical neanderthal denying there is anything wrong with our game

good point from a rock,Dublin. The womens game is far more open, and there are alot more scores.I would encourage anyone on this board to give it a watch. Youll be pleasantly surprised.Or you can watch the soccer. Also can everyone please stop blaming jim mcguinness for this brand of football?Mickey harte and the Tyrone 03 team started all this. Its their fault.Jim is just making it slightly more extreme. As Brolly said, hes just bringing it to its natural conclusion

Somebody please do something, this is horrific. Get O'Gara on maybe, he might ruffle things up a bit and tell Bernard to stay by his side. Dublin should have played their normal game and not play it at Donegals level. As it is they're copying the blanket defence so the two teams are just nullifying each other.

Actually maybe they could bring on Ronan O'Gara. At least he would score more.

Now that I get to see the second half it's fascinating to watch.

Donegal are attempting to plan and control for every event in the game. All those niggly fouls that Michael Lyster thinks are signs of Donegal losing discipline are all intentional, every time they get involved in a schemozzle it's for a reason. As I write this Diarmuid Connolly got sent off, deliberately provoked and fell for it. The way it was going i was expecting Dublin to sneak through as Donegal haven't perfected this yet.

Barcelona's plan to dominate soccer was to retain and recycle possession, Donegal are trying to replicate this. The only part missing is the high pressing, can't do that in football because there's no offside trap.

The last match I remember like this was the Milan-Juve Champions League Final from Old Trafford a good few years back. Great match, tactically excellent, but everyone though it was a terrible match as there was no blood and thunder.
