After Round 2 I was thinking about Antrim possibly making the knockout stage. But now I'm thinking we probably have to beat a good Carlow team just to avoid relegation. At least our last 2 games are at home. M Lyster (Antrim) - Posts: 465 - 11/05/2024 18:59:50 2544148 Link 0 |
Well done Carlow.

It's an absolutely fantastic championship in spite of the media trying to make it a two horse race. The quality of hurling may not be quite as good as Munster but it's brilliant, due in no small part to Antrim and Carlow efforts.

A really competitive competition. The TV coverage is disappointing. Glensboy (Antrim) - Posts: 308 - 12/05/2024 11:31:20 2544230 Link 1 |
Agreed It's a different type of championship but no less entertaining Antrim and Carlow being so well prepared has really added to the championship We can aspire to be like them Dublin hurling well too All to play for LockLeanGayl (Westmeath) - Posts: 257 - 13/05/2024 11:38:18 2544449 Link 0 |
What are the thoughts on who will progress? Are Dublin favorites to take 3rd spot after KK and Galway?

It's hard to know really. They've to play Kilkenny and Galway still whereas we have Carlow and Kilkenny. Dublin record wouldn't be great against Kilkenny but decent against Galway. Wexford record obviously very good against Kilkenny in the last 7 years dominating the head to head. Truthfully as a Wexford man I'm more worried about Carlow than Kilkenny. Especially after this weekend. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3080 - 13/05/2024 12:10:27 2544467 Link 0 |
Marginally according to PP, but i wouldn't be so sure. We need two good performances - i think a win in either Parnell or Salthill unlikely to be honest - to keep score difference on our side against Wexford who will beat Carlow and so it will be whether it will be sufficiently more than they most likely lose to Cats, and we lose to Cats and Galway that will decide. Not of course beyond the bounds that there will be more surprises. Having KK in Parnell gives us some chance but its not a great one on recent form. Haven't beaten Galway in Galway, nor ever looked liked really beating them there for a long time. Will go down to last day and I be happy enough if they stand up next two days regardless of any qualifying spot. Cats be like men possessed on Saturday and unless Dublin match that and show some real steel and a bit of badness, could be long night. It's interesting how much time you're spending looking backwards to look forwards. A lot of talk about 'records' there. Would current form, and current talent level, come into the equation at all I wonder?

I suppose it would but the real beauty of hurling is in tradition. Galway are talented but form has been uninspiring. Kilkenny are kings of Leinster. Talent has diminished in recent years but always dangerous. Dublin are fairly limited but are somehow top of the table. Coming off the back of a huge win. Wexford.... Plenty of talent. Form doesn't really exist, but have been caught already. Coming off the back of a huge performance and a week off. It's all to play for and anybody's guess. You'd expect Galway to win their remaining games. Expect Wexford to get 2 points at least. Kilkenny will be dangerous on the back of that result. That's a crisis in Kilkenny. The last day should be very interesting. Truth be told I'd much rather Kilkenny had already qualified by then but we did it in 22 in nowlan park when they could have gone out. I'm going to do a Katser and go out on a limb- I think it will be a Dublin Wexford final and Kilkenny will scrape into 3rd. Maybe?!!!!

He's not looking back very far. The last 7 years is hardly ancient history both sides have pretty much the same best players as they've had in that time.

If Dublin and Wexford beat Cats then they can't make third if Galway beat Antrim and/or Dublin. Will likely be same as 2019 with lads glued to radios on last day. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3061 - 13/05/2024 21:00:41 2544594 Link 0 |
There's plenty of lads in Galway kicking themselves over 22.

By all means please correct me IF I am wrong....... In order for Your limb to come through as stated above.... You are saying KK beat Dub, Wex beat Carlow, Dub beat Galway and Wex beat KK? katser (Galway) - Posts: 2466 - 13/05/2024 21:38:16 2544606 Link 0 |
I didn't look into it that deeply at all I was only looking to provoke a response from you;-)

But realistically I think we will win both our last 2 games. Narrowly. I also think you will win both yours. I think Kilkenny will beat Dublin because this group of Dublin players don't really believe they can beat Kilkenny. They should, they are good enough, but they don't. So if you put 50 in my Ladbrokes account and told me I had to do a Tricast with it I'd go Wexford, Galway, Kilkenny in that order. I'm not saying I'm absolutely certain it will pan out that way, I wouldn't be completely shocked if we lost to Carlow, but if you asked me to put my money where my finger is that's the way Id see the Round Robin ending up.

Dublin beating Galway, Kilkenny beating Dublin, Wexford beating Kilkenny and Wexford beating Carlow (or equivalent) would be standard enough fare in Leinster given the past record 6/7 years. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3061 - 14/05/2024 08:14:04 2544618 Link 0 |
Good man Viking - sure you have to have hope! What else is there....

That's what swung it for me when I pushed myself to make a real prediction earlier Barney. At the same time I do think you are good enough to win both your last games, it wouldn't be a huge shock if you did, I just feel they are 60/40 games against you.
