JP McManus Donates €1M To Each County Board

Fair play to the man, whatever about his own tax status and your views on that, he doesn't have to give the GAA anything. We could badly do with it in Leitrim anyhow. Thoughts?

A great man. He has also donated a fortune to various charities down the years.

He pays tax for whoever works for him here. He doesn't lived here and his business is not based here.

Besides which he contributes way more to Irish society through his donations than how that money would be frittered away if it was in general revenue.

That's my thoughts.

What a generous man JP is. Fair play to him.

That 1million to each county board, will make a massive difference to all.

It is some gesture.....

That will make a massive difference to the smaller counties. Believe he gave out 100k to all counties 5 or 6 years ago too.

I hope he has strings attached.

ie. that it has to be spent on infrastructure or something that leaves a legacy or is revenue generating for the future.

I'd hate to think it would be wasted on the extravagance of the I/C set up or general current spending.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm putting it out there before anyone starts talking about where or how he contributes to the running of the country. There will be lots who will be lining up to critise him.

He is gifting a much lower percentage of his personal wealth than most of us give to charity in any given year, and we all pay tax on top of that. Where is our write-up?

If I didn't pay any taxes I would be donating a much more considerable chunk of my annual earnings to charities, like Donegal Hospice, SVP, Simon Community, and yes, I would spend more money on local GAA fundraisers. Philanthropy is a disease.

He raised a 140 million for charities with his golf pro am. Now I'm sure you're some saint yourself so you're in a great position to criticise JP but I'd personally find it very hard to begrudge the man

Firstly he pays taxes in another county. No Irish person with our taxi bonanza of multinationals can criticise that while availing of very dubious taxi collection ourselves. Some people are just negative by nature and are to be more pitied than scorned.
Secondly this is a hugely generous thing he has done and of huge benefit to small counties particularly dual counties.Thank you JP now lets put It to good use

Most "philanthropy" goes to fund left wing activists here. Billions of it over the years.

Much prefer a wealthy person who contributes to genuine community organisations. How much of what you donate to certain organisations goes to the people it is supposed to by the way? Not alleging corruption but vast bulk of NGO spending is on their own wages.
