The McDonagh Cup final is back as curtain raiser to the Leinster Hurling final. The McDonagh finalists will take on the Munster and Leinster 3rd placed teams a week later. A one week gap to the preliminary quarter-finals isn't ideal but the 3 weeks of preparation this year didn't make a strong argument for an extended gap.
