Will Rugby World Cup Harm Gaa.

Replying To GreenandRed:  "All sports need to be more welcoming now if they want to get people to participate, get Mam and Dad to get their kids involved in sport. Ignoring their kids fondness for the TV, tablet, Xbox and complaints 'but it' s cold and it's raining'. Getting them there and keeping them there the first few weeks, where they can make new friends, is the hard part. GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Basketball etc won't harm each other. Kids and adults might try more than one sport and often do. What'll harm some sporting organisations is highlighting weaknesses in other sports rather than publicising their own sport better. And if you can get your kids involved in teams sports, no matter the sport, they'll learn loads about life, arguably more than in most schools who teach them how to pass exams."
Couldn't agree more. Throw as much sport as possible at the kids and hopefully something will stick, we would all love it to be the GAA but the reality is not ever kid will want to play it and despite what some people would like to think, its not a sport for everyone. I will never understand the begrudgery of sports organizations to each other in Ireland. Rivals yes but some people want to see other sports fail as they believe that it makes theirs look better. All that shows is their own insecurity in what they believe about their own sport.

Replying To TheFlaker:  "Sorry just to clarify I said rugby isn't thriving in Connacht and there hasn't been any new clubs in over a decade. You replied with 2 clubs that don't exist to try and argue against something you know very little about. If you did know what was going on in Connacht you would not have mentioned South Sligo and Crossmolina. And now because I call you out on it you claim I am shutting down other views. I am simply correcting your mistakes on this topic."
You're wasting your time Flaker. KillingFields will challenge any and every post that questions rugby. I played rugby up to my late teens for my local club. That's forty years ago. There were three clubs in Louth then and there are four clubs in Louth now. The new one is in Carlingford. Not much growth in forty years.

You ignore my post to you again about Connacht failing to admit you were wrong. It comes back to the same thing. Mini rugby will always get numbers, always has , always will. The point is, and this point has been made many times, rugby has not had any impact on GAA at adult level, none.

The population has also increased. Is the increase in playing numbers in proportion to the increase in population? The only real development in my local club has been the introduction of girls teams. They don't have a senior ladies team yet.

Which is why presumably the team did not want a public reception, They knew that there was nothing to celebrate. Celebrating losing is not a good trait. The reception for a soccer team that failed to win even one game took place a week after the All Ireland champions were shunted off into relatively unwelcoming part of city at rush hour. With hardly a politician bothering to turn up because a lot them only like "football."

Have you been following the thread? The numbers at senior level show it.

It hasnt always has always will. Rugby doesnr need to impact on the gaa and even if rugby did get ten times bigger at adult level it wouldnt negatively affect the gaa

Must be many moons ago since Earls ever had enough game to trouble the All-Blacks. I can't see how Earls specifically could have 'succeeded' at the RWC in an individual context. Just hasn't enough game at this stage of his 'cycle' to trouble the NZs and SAs in a RWC. Is he blaming himself, or blaming other individuals? Blaming 'the collective' is just bs too really. I can't see how it progresses anything?

Very little growth in Donegal as well. I count 6 rugby clubs compared to 40 for GAA and a similar number for soccer.

If Rugby got ten times bigger it wouldn't have any impact on the GAA? Absolutely baffling stuff.

Dundalk. They have as you said introduced underage teams at each year from U8 up to u18. They've also introduced girls teams at u12, u14, u16, and u18. As far as I know they don't have a ladies team yet. They used to field four adult men's teams. I'm not sure if they still do. They are playing at a level below the level they used to play at in the Leinster League. I would follow their progress in the local papers but their profile in the town wouldn't be that high. There have been coaching initiatives in schools but that is true of the three major field sport organisations in the county.

6 clubs but how many more teams are these clubs fielding than they were 20 years ago...
It cant simply be about number of clubs alone
