Replying To zinny:  "A diehard GAA man Viking! but I would rather see kids play some sport than no sport at all and what I don't agree with is people trying to put down other sports and ignoring the problems in the GAA ."
Spot on Zinny. Lazy parents breeding lazy kids.....

Replying To KillingFields:  "As if you don't spoof.
I've been active in Connacht rugby for years at all levels on pitch and off.
There had been teams there
What people here are active and what clubs?"
You always say that. But never point out where I do. Even now when you are wrong still arguing against my facts. I have played for years and am still a member of a club in Connacht. You named 2 clubs that don't exist but are still here adamant you know best.

There def was a club set up around 2012 in South of the county..."
There's only one rugby club in Sligo. A small bit of rugby in certain schools and if I give you the benefit of the doubt and accept there was a club in south Sligo in 2012 which is 11 years ago it's safe to assume that there was often snow falls that lasted longer. Rugby has made zero progress in Sligo.

You actually sound quite proud of that fact which is sad, but either way everybody knows that Sligo is a proud and die-hard soccer town, and nothing wrong with that all.

And long may that zero continue!

There are 28 rugby clubs in Connacht, 5 Senior, and the rest junior. A well placed figure in Connacht rugby stated the above recently in general conversation, and expressed fears that the number of Senior clubs will fall below 5 teams, due to lack of numbers for one reason.

I don't even think it is 28, not registered with the provincial branch. I think it's 26 in total and some of those are hanging on.

I would say you are correct, the impression I took from the chat was that things were not strong at club level, Ballina for example are struggling at present.

Ballina will be ok. They have done some great work the past few years on and off the pitch. I would worry for the smaller clubs.

I have no idea how you figured out that I am proud of the fact that rugby has made no progress up here. I was merely stating the facts. To try and say that rugby is making waves up here is utterly ridiculous.
I have been to loads of games across the country.. I would hate if any of my children played the sport. In GAA the worst common injury is probably the cruciate which takes the most of a year to regain fitness. In rugby there are a lot of spinal injuries plus a host of concussion. Rugby I believe has peaked in this country. There are maybe a dozen serious rugby nations, the rest are the equivalent of counties from the lower tiers of hurling allowed participate in the All Ireland Series. The No 1 ranking was silly, we were probably 3rd or 4th best in the world. Over the next few years we will see a raft of high profile players taking legal action against the governing body for head injuries received while playing.

Replying To zinny:  "You are not very good at understanding the meaning of posts and anyone who thinks that rugby is about 15 players trying to all hit each other hasn't spent much time out from under the rock. Rugby knows it has a problem with head hits and is trying to deal with it - the GAA has a problem with head hits and is burying its head in the sand. In rugby the onus is on the player making the challenge to ensure the safety of the player, I have never once heard the same said about the GAA when a player gets hit in the head - all you hear is that its was unluck, he is not a dirty player, there was no malice in it. On a regular basis there are hits in the GAA that would warrant red cards in Rugby and the player hit leaving the field. - The GAA only introduced a replacement sub for concussion in 2021 - one wonders was the delay due to the fact they thought concussion in the GAA didn't exist or teams would game the system."
Comparing the instance of rugby head injuries to GAA head injuries is beyond ridiculous. I don't see many former GAA players taking cases against the GAA for head injuries from GAA while former rugby players have suffered from depression and memory loss as well as spinal injuries. There is plenty of stories of rugby management's putting players back out on the field having suffered concussion so I think you are overrating rugby's concerns for this issue.

That just is so laughable.
The potential chance of a spinal injury is minimal and could happen in many sports. The worst injury you could get in hurling or garlic is far from a cruciate....
There is plenty of concussion in gaa as well and if you don't think so you are very naive.
There isn't a lot of spinal injuries in rugby.
Rugby hasn't peaked at all in this country and the no1 ranking in world wasn't silly it was based on ongoing results over numerous years....

All sports need to be more welcoming now if they want to get people to participate, get Mam and Dad to get their kids involved in sport. Ignoring their kids fondness for the TV, tablet, Xbox and complaints 'but it' s cold and it's raining'. Getting them there and keeping them there the first few weeks, where they can make new friends, is the hard part. GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Basketball etc won't harm each other. Kids and adults might try more than one sport and often do. What'll harm some sporting organisations is highlighting weaknesses in other sports rather than publicising their own sport better. And if you can get your kids involved in teams sports, no matter the sport, they'll learn loads about life, arguably more than in most schools who teach them how to pass exams.

So you decided to not respond to the post in which I replied to you about the 2 clubs you named that don't exist? What does it matter if I run through the list of junior clubs who are holding things together ? You don't know anything about the club scene in my home province.

Sorry just to clarify I said rugby isn't thriving in Connacht and there hasn't been any new clubs in over a decade. You replied with 2 clubs that don't exist to try and argue against something you know very little about. If you did know what was going on in Connacht you would not have mentioned South Sligo and Crossmolina. And now because I call you out on it you claim I am shutting down other views. I am simply correcting your mistakes on this topic.
