Kerry V Derry

Replying To ballydalane:  "Derry might never have a better chance to beat Kerry.

Shane McGuigan lobbing the ball over at the end was such an anti climax. I know he didn't mean it because he was rubbing his head, but it cleared the crossbar by miles!!"
Wonder had McGuigan a bet on a 2 point winning margin? ridiculous effort for one of the best forwards in the game according to the pundits.
Kerry played below their level I thought and still managed to win it, sets up the final I suppose everybody wants.

Derry midfield collapsed in the second half. Kerry completely dominate. Kerry keeper and full back had a good game. Possibly Derry should have taken their point instead of drilling shots at goal. Anyway this is a good Kerry team. A physical team. And Dubs will need to be at their best to stop them. Hope Dubs can.

Derry absolutely kicked that game away in the second half. It was there for them but poor shot execution and selection at times in the second half killed them off. Kerry did what Kerry do with 10 to go, took their chances and managed the game out.

Replying To cavanman47:  "2. It wasn't even a foul. Nor was Clifford's shoulder"
Oh right Caveman, there must be hard men around Cavan. Cliffords shoulder was on shoulder but from the front, free all day, keepers should have been a yellow but more importantly, no score. Ref was piss poor but when has he had a good game. He might get the final now.

The two competitive semi finals highlights the fact Quarter finalists need a minimum of 13 days rest next year.

Replying To Freethinker:  "Derry best all over except on the scoreboard. A few silly mistakes and a few poor calls from management. What about that "arse to chest" charge by the Kerry keeper?. I'd say that is a new one, not covered by the rule book. Having said all that, Kerry are through and after that test I fancy them to hang onto Sam for another year."
As a matter of interest, can the GAA authorities take a look at that incident with the Kerry, Ryan? That was a really nasty piece of work. When watched in slow motion, it seems that he deliberately went for the head of his opponent and took him out. Didn't they retrospectively suspend Kyle Hayes of Limerick for a game after looking at an incident for which he didn't receive a red card nor a yellow card during the game? Is the rule the same in football as for hurling? If so, Ryan might be in line to miss the AIF, and he'd be a huge loss for Kerry.

I don't understand, should he have stopped in mid air ?

What in the name of god was Derry doing in the last 5 minutes kicking three long kick outs that yielded Kerry three points. Brain fart springs to mind. Won all their short kick outs then they do that.

No he can't stop in mid air but not many players do a spin around in mid air and lead with their hole.

Straight red all day for the keeper in my opinion.

Have a look at it again. He jumps gets the ball and turns sideways so his knees don't go into the Derry player's face. And yes his arse catches him, but he hasn't jumped at him. He has gone up for the ball.

My Sentiments exactly...
They should have kept going with the short kick out...
We can all give out about the referee...but at the end if the day Doire threw it away

Same thing crossed my mind. Most long ones he kicked earlier were to unmarked Derry men. Then he kicks long.., and as you say, gives away 3 pts. Having said that, Derry had about 4 goal chances that nobody can figure how they stayed out. If even 2 of those went in ….

Pat Spillane never tired of telling viewers that, regardless of plans or systems, the team that wins midfield nearly always wins the game. (with the exception of Mayo who have been lacking in natural forwards for a very long time) Derry only really dominated midfield, and to very good effect, when they had an extra man. Once Kerry got to grips around the middle the pendulum swung their way. Free and Yellow against Clifford very harsh, Ryan maybe a free but nothing more. If there was a red card incident Gareth McKinless was very luck not to get one in the incident in which he went off injured. Can't understand last kick unless ref told him he had to score direct, which I doubt. Best game all year. Derry have really improved and are clearly a top 3 team now but I wonder is there any set of circumstances (5 points down last minute) when they are prepared leave a couple of men up. Hard to call the final bookies have Kingdom the slightest of favs.

If only Derry played with 15 players. No 10 & 15 not at the races at all, 23 came in early and gave away 3 turnover points. McFaul in fairness had good 2nd half but imagine if Derry had 15 lads making some kind of contribution they'd be serious. Derry left it behind them more than Kerry took it

Absolutely gutted on the way home from the game. A really sore one to take. The boys did themselves justice but we should not have lost that game.

No doubt Derry owned the first half. Thought Ryan did nothing wrong. Cant understand Kerry tactics of giving up all the kickouts
They only pushed up on the for the last 10 mins which forced them to kick long. Derry are a great side and will no doubt be back
Kerry got out of jail today. Stephen O Brien made all the difference

Goalie came out hard, went high for the ball, got it, and turned his body to avoid striking his opponent with his knees. I don't see how he could just hang there and not collide with the player.
If you get the ball first and the collide with a player, without going out of your way to do so, it cannot be called a charge.

They did the same daft thing when the super 8 was in existence.. 6 day turnarounds for one team and 2 weeks for another, it's a load of rubbish and puts the 6 day team at a huge disadvantage.
