Farewell The Aeroplane - Teddy McCarthy RIP

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I've just heard the extremely sad news of the passing of Teddy McCarthy. A genuine GAA legend. My thoughts are with his family. A truly gifted player in both codes and it's highly unlikely his feat of winning the double will ever be matched now. Watching him in the 80s is one of my earliest GAA memories.
Farewell the Aeroplane.

Very sad news for his family, his friends, Cork Gaa fans and the wider Gaa community. His unique achievement of winning senior All Ireland medals in both hurling and football in the same year will never be repeated.

Teddy Mccarthy

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Was once in his company not long after the famous double. A unique distinction not shared by many.

Very sad news of the passing of Teddy as a relatively young age.
His 2 All Irelands in the same year will never be repeated. Great achievement.
Nowadays most Inter County Football Managers wouldn't allow a player to even go and watch a Hurling game, ( in case they pulled a hammy) never mind play in one!

Teddy had the Heart of a Lion !
No airs or graces about him , pulled the jersey over his head and went out and gave it everything , Be it a Tipperary hurling team , the Meath football team or a lorry load of Australians in compromoise rules going for him -Teddy truely had the Heart of a Lion!

Shocking news at the passing of Teddy. A legend of the game taken way too early just like Tony Keady. Don't think anyone will ever achieve the All Ireland Double again, not to mind the same year. Rest in peace big man.
