Is This New Thing Of Players Buying Present( Cris Cringle) Gone Overboard In Teams

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomsmith here from Cavan

I am told that the new fad in teams is this new thing of buying presents for one another, I an taul that it is called Cris Cringle where you are bought for and you buy.

I feel that this is a step to far in Club teams as some players may just not have the money to buy .
It difficult times at Christmas for alot of fellows whoes wifes and partners Birthday falls away from Christmas ( Ideally get a partner whoes birthday is near Christmas one present will do ).
While Christmas is a time of giving this new fad of teams buying for one another ( In taul its called bonding ) is a step to far

Read an interesting Kris Kringle story from Newcastle United back in the 90s.

Temuri Ketsbaia (bald) received a hair brush.
Duncan Ferguson (who had done a 3 month stetch for headbutting a player) got a pair of novelty prisoner pyjamas.
Didi Hamann (German) received a copy of Mein Kampf.

So yes, probably best to nip this in the bud in the GAA for financial and team harmony reasons! :P

Tomsmith here ..
Exiled in Wexford from Dublin or maybe the other way around..
Tomsmithhere from Cavan. Exiled you assked the question how I got over Christmas ?? Well I can tell you that it is an expensive time, and the waste is odious... One ha s to buy the first few Boxes of sweets /biscuits before you start to recycle the ones that you get as presents . Indeed I nearly got caught this years recycling a Box of Cad Dairy Milks. It had a wee card on the outside with too and from on it nicely wrapped .But inside it had a personal note from a person who I owed a few Euros too for a Turkeys last Christmas , extolling me to Call as he hadent seen me all year.and wondered did I forget to call. Sure you would think that he felt he wasent going to get his money for the few Turkeys... But recycling Christmas presents if done correctly has a big saving... . It wasent a wile one but funny enough I heard of a Couple who were in frrom the Mullaghoran / Mullingasta part of the County staying in Cavan celebrating a 50 th wedding anniversary who fell out and he said to her... Sure I would never have taken you only for the fact you r crowd had afew good Banks of Black Turf.. Now that comment will be lost on aDUb exiled in Wexford. So much for Country living

Tomsmith here

Sparrow from away down in County Clare..

Your very generous offer of a late Christamas present , is received with both jot and sorrow.
I start and say that a late present is ( As the great Mrs says T an after thought made by feeling guily) not really appreciated.
On the more [positive side its the thought that counts, and its odious decdent of you to even think of it.
AS I am sure its not some thing that would fit into an letter Box sure send it to the Top corner Imperial Hotel Cavan Town.
Thanking you in advance for the kindness and while I wrote about late presents in haste I am sure myself and the great Mrs T will enjoy it
