i think they have to. Clubs pay affiliation fees for the competitions, club members pay memberships and if theres nothing then clubs and people will be looking for their money back. the county board cant sustain that so will run some sort of a reduced championship i reckon. Yes I suppose it will be like all local soccer & rugby clubs in Ireland but if things are going the way they are and continue to do so you would imagine it will become a possibility . But as we've seen in this and every other country, the economic aspect has a big say. The affiliation fee is not measly when every club in the county pays it! if its not paid, clubs could be entitled to their money back. What happens the county board then with no income? Then what about the clubs, many who have collected membership and have overheads of loans, insurance etc. If theres no games, many may look for their money back. What happens then when loans are defaulted on? I'm not saying any of this is the right thing to do but whats the alternative solution to the above problems of the pandemic? Typical lip service to clubs. With county to start in mid October and club to finish at same time is a joke. Inter county training to recommence in mid September again the club with be without their players who they should have full time till the club is eliminated. Conor McManus on the Sunday game showed that is not the county manager you can blame for county payers training and skipping club training. Anyone who believes that inter county will not start training till mid September is off there head. In some cases, inter-county managers are already looking for club championships to be played as quickly as possible so they can have earlier access to their county players. Above sums it all up - COUNTY COUNTY COUNTY - players are under desperate pressure as it stands they are caught between two stools. After all that people have been through in the last few weeks/months the BULLIES still wins. It is a know fact that some dual players are opting out of playing some one of there club sports. See where Mayo are running off their football championship in 6 weeks which appears a bit tight. The have 4 groups of four with a quarter final, semifinal and final. While I agree dual players need to be taken into account; as far as I know Mayo have 3, possibly 4 adult hurling clubs so don't really need that many rounds to do their championship anyway. Hurling was always popular in Donaghmore and had 2 teams in the 2000s/2010s. Numbers have declined drastically to the point of being just about able to field 15 for league games and only slightly better for championship. Why are we to have Finals on 4th October there is another week for Clubs as Inter county don't start till 17th or in Meaths case 24th Oct.
