Things That Seemed Ridiculous At Start Of Decade That Actually Happened

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

OK stole this idea from other sport forums but worth a shot for GAA.

Startled earwigs Dublin would win 7/10 available All Irelands including a 5 in a row.

Kilkenny would not be the team to do 5 in a row first.

Kerry would win only one All Ireland.

Clare would come out of nowhere and win hurling All Ireland. In same year Dublin would win Leinster.

No hopers Donegal would win an All Ireland and establish themselves as top 4/5 team.

London would reach a provincial final.

Hurling provincials would abandon knock out format for round robin as a reaction to football QFs becoming round robin

Mayo would lose yet another 4 finals without winning one.

Offaly would end up in hurlings 3rd tier.

Sky Sports would show live matches.

Tipperary would reach a football semi.

Any more?

Limerick to win an all Ireland and even crazier become a favourite to win more.

Cork to go so long without an AI in both men's codes at the same time.

Also I don't think the hurling round robin and the super 8 are connected

Cody would still manage KK at the end of it.

Cork go a first decade since 1800's without lifting Liam

Hawkeye would decide an AI final.

That Kerry who were so poor at the minor grade for so many years would win 5 in a row All Irelands.

Cork and Down who contested the first all Ireland of the decade would start the next decade playing division 3 football

Cork not to won any AI hurling championship, PuC hosted a Soccer game, albeit pressured into it, Kerry to only winning one all Ireland, also never thought a football team would win 5 in a row

That feels so long ago now I assumed decade was a typo and you meant millennium.

What a quaint old time it was back then

A Carlow team would win a Leinster senior club hurling title and to a lesser extent in the opposite direction, a Tipperary team would win a Munster senior club football title.

This was back when the conventional wisdom around here was that winning your province was detrimental to a teams hopes of an All-Ireland and serious teams should aim for the qualifier route.

Definitely for me was the turnaround in Donegal's fortunes. From the debacle of the Armagh defeat in Crossmaglen in 2010 to All-Ireland champions two years later still baffles me in a good way to this day!

A county that was a laughing stock at inter-county level suddenly winning 7 All Irelands! But I'm sure money had nothing to do with it, or the home advantage, or the professional set-up :D

that the dubs would beat kerry in every big game they met in and if the dubs won the 5 that kerry posters would congratulate without whinging

Saying in 2009 that Laois would knock Dublin out of the championship would not have been outlandish at all. It would have only been a few seasons since it had happened.

That the GAA would tear down a stadium just over 40 years since it was last redeveloped & that the final cost would be disputed by those involved with three different figures given. Add in that the brand new pitch surface would have to be relaid within a few months of the opening & you have a situation that matches the highest incompetence you would have thought belonged to a decade ago.

What home advantage!! Parnell Park hasn't been used for football championship games in years

Got 0% affiliation with the county in question and only marginally more interest in football, but God above, they are deserving of a bit more respect than that...
Laughing stock!! Are you serious..

It really does seem to kill you Kerry lads that you don't saunter to an all Ireland final every year by playing 3 or 4 matches. Bitterness indeed.

Kilkenny utterly dominated hurling between 2004-14, they weren't liked but they were respected..
Respect to Dublin, they're worthy champions
