Westmeath Footballers 2020

(Oldest Posts First)

I assume the senior footballers are back training or at least back doing gym programmes etc. Be great to see Ray Connellan back if he is available. Hopefully Luke Loughlin is also committed as we will need all quality players for what will be a tough league. Have many new players been called up does anyone know?

senior management did not think it worth their while going to the county final . instead they were at the offaly final managing rhode . i would expect declan gorman and pacshal keelaghan to have been there as they are 2 proud rhode men but mr cooney has no excuse . i have heard nothing from the camp so we have to wait for the o byrne cup . it will be interesting will any of the garrycastle lads go in . james dolan was their only starter last year . so an interesting time ahead

Of what i have heard Ray Connellan is planning to come back into the fold but not till half way through the league. Luke Loughlin has not make himself available for selection hopefully he will change his mind because he is the best inside forward we have in the county.
Looking forward to see what team lines out on Saturday against Wexford hopefully some fresh young faces that we haven't seen at this level before.

Perhaps Connellan is easing himself back into things after the intensity of professional training in AFL? He'll be busy enough playing Sigerson anyway.

I don't know how Loughlin would fit into Cooney's plans if he was available. He's been dropped for disciplinary reasons on more than one occasion. Fantastic talent but unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see him fulfil his potential. If he was interested he could make the hurling team too. I don't think he's a bad kid at all by any means but the commitment required for inter-county these days may not be for him.

Hopefully a few new faces kick on and freshen up the team. Currently up by 3 with a few minutes to go against Wexford.

100% agree with you on Luke unfortunately. I actually thought he would be with the hurlers this season as they could also do with him! Nice to see the footballers get off to a win today away from home with so many new players. Meath next Saturday in Mullingar which should be a lively game.

Luke is back - listed as number 18 tomorrow v Offaly.
Not long back in so unlikely to feature.
U20's also playing tomorrow so slightly different look to subs bench.

Westmeath have a big squad so they should be able to cope with a few injuries and a lot of lads are to come back into the team for the league. O'Toole is not injured. I don't know if Heslin is injured or was he just rested against Offaly.

This is how I would like to see us line up against Clare. Not sure how long Duncan is back training.

Carberry

Daly Maguire Sayeh

McGivney Wallace Dolan

Duncan Corroon

Lynch Conor McCormack O'Toole

Callum McCormack Heslin Halligan

I expect Ray Connellan won't be available for the first few leagues games. Also have Holloway, Martin, Egan, Gonoud and McDaniels to come back into contention soon. Loughlin is not long back training so it looks the strongest squad in a few years.
