After another year wrapped up what I want to know is who do you think are the most underrated footballers in the country? I'm sure there are plenty on peoples mind, there are dozens of quality players that don't get the recognition they deserve. boman11 (Antrim) - Posts: 237 - 17/09/2019 10:17:39 2236518 Link 0 |
Ciaran Martin Westmeath is a fine footballer. avonali (Dublin) - Posts: 1974 - 17/09/2019 14:20:52 2236617 Link 8 |

From my own county, I would say Seamus O'Shea. Wins kickouts, turnovers and is a very good foot passer. Don't think he was ever nominated for an all star. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 420 - 17/09/2019 16:29:53 2236698 Link 0 |
Bit of a left field one and maybe the case that he hasn't played in the pass two years as much but Sean powter from cork has the potential to be one of the best in the country when fit.each time he's come off the bench from cork he has changed the energy and his enthusiasm pace and doggedness is fantastic to see..touch wood he doesn't get another injury and gets a full year next year and hopefully then he'll show the country just how good a player he is pidge (Cork) - Posts: 543 - 17/09/2019 16:55:44 2236705 Link 0 |
Think Seamus lavin from Meath doesn't get the credit he deserves. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 17/09/2019 19:00:28 2236768 Link 0 |

He's not underrated though. Himself and John Heslin are recognised as the top Westmeath players. I think you're just naming a top footballer off the top of your head, rather than an underrated one, there is a difference. I'd agree with Mick Fitzsimmons. I'd wholly agree with you here, absolute beast of a player, so unlucky with injury.

How is Ian Burke underrated? I go as far as hes overrated. Got an All Star last year that he didnt really deserve as Comer and Walsh are much better forwards for Galway than him and were last year

Great player, would love to see him get a good crack next year. Definitely one that can put himself on notice given a good injury free season

Good shout, I think a few Dublin defenders go under the radar at times, Fitzsimons and John Small for me, very rarely someone gets the better of either of them

Ian Burke does a lot of unrecognised work, not always competing up there in terms of heavy scoring but he does an awful lot of unselfish running and creating space for other forwards (normally as Comer and Walsh are the go to men. Provides an awful lot of assists and is generally a handful for most defenders, but I wouldn't say he is under or overrated

I basically posted the exact same thing but the mods blocked it. He was very poor in connaught final in particular in my opinion. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5012 - 18/09/2019 11:14:55 2237008 Link 0 |
I'll throw in three fine footballers from Tipp into the mix: Conor Sweeney, Brian Fox, and Robbie Kiely. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 18/09/2019 11:28:41 2237023 Link 1 |
If one can underrate a Dublin player then I suppose this one fits the bill....I am more in the frame that all of them are actually excellent at what they do.
